First things first i aint got a 140tdi. . . . .i've got a 170!
It's on lease and the lease company ordered a 170 (news to me). . .my monthly fee stays the same (which is cheap as chips anyway cos its subsidised).
You must remember i've jumped up from a fiesta to this scirocco....i was doin 90 on the M1 and didn't even realise why all the other cars were going backwards! Crikey it's got some power
Only gripe is the boot doesn't open when i use the key fob (i'll mention it when it goes for first service...i'm having too much fun for it to go in to the hospital this early.
Hahaha, result!! Awesome news!! I know the feeling you have, I went from a 1.0 litre engine to my 170 TDi, immense!!
Glad all is well
Yes, keep an eye on the speedo until you are used to the power!! The boot problem seems to be a common issue (I have it), you get used to it though. I will get mine looked at sometime soon hopefully. There are a few posts on here about it.
I love this car straight away...it's awesome. The acceleration from 3rd to 4th was like a rocket. My licence is currently clean and i intend to keep it that way (for as long as i get away with it).
Is the traction control on when it flashes on the dash or off?

Week 43 Build has happened on time! 22 Oct'09 Scirocco is at Check Point 5 in the factory

The traction control (ESP) is OFF when the yellow/orange light flashes slowly and regularly in the instrument cluster. This would only happen if you have held the ESP button down for a second or two (the one in front of the gearstick). The ESP should be left on, as it makes driving much safer.
If the wheels spin, you may notice the ESP light flash on for a couple of seconds whilst the traction control does it's business.
If the boot doesn't open at all, or doesn't make any sound to suggest it is trying to unlock, when you use the keyfob, then you have a problem. Sometimes I have to hold my boot release button down on my key twice to get the boot to properly unlock, but this is an intermittent fault for me.
I have never heard the advice to turn the traction control off in "tricky conditions" - ESP has been attributed to preventing many accidents / injuries / deaths so I would advise you to leave it on at all times.
Glad the boot is now open! I presume you know you also have a boot release switch on the inside of the driver's door?
Regarding the oil warning light coming on - I was not told about this by my VW dealer, and again have never heard about it. Mine has done over 5000 miles and no light has come on. Just keep a check on the oil dipstick anyway.
Enjoy! I would suggest a REVO remap once you've put some miles on her, but as yours is leased I understand that may not be possible for you.
I won't be making any modifications unfortunately as it's leased for 3 years and i'll probably just get another when the lease is up.
My lease is awesome and includes insurance, tax, servicings, repairs and tyres/glass etc. . . .i'm embarrassed to say how little it is erm its less than £250 per month!
I've heard about turning off the ESP, but not in tricky conditions. You should do it when starting your car in tricky conditions. Otherwise, if it's slippy and the front wheels spin, the ESP will think you got into 'trouble' and will kill the gas to try and rebalance the car. With the gas cut, you won't be able to get any proper grip (like when it's snowing - now).
Anyway, turning the ESP off should not be done over 30kmh. That's why all manufacturers set it to turn on itself automatically when the car exceeds 50km/h(if the driver had previously turned it off).

I was reading about yesterday. It's in the handbook 3.2 Tips & M. Page 6 in my edition under ESP. Special situations for OFF :-
1) Driving in Deep Snow or on loose surfaces (which I read as pure loose gravel type road).
2) Rocking back & forth in mud to free the car.

Oh, fair enough. I've never driven in those conditions, and probably never will

Sounds like a great lease. Where did you get a deal like that, is it though your work?
I contacted my work today about my montly price cause of the VAT and VW increase and i was shocked about how much it went up. VAT on the monthly cost and more VAT on the price of the car. I said to them that was a fair bit more than i was willing to pay so, i contacted the dealer trying to come to a deal with them. They said they give leasing companies a maximum of 8% discount and others a maximum of 6% so they wouldnt budge. I said to my dealer i was thinking of cancelling the order with the leasing company but still wanted the car as i have been waiting for a over 2 months now which would have just been a waste. They gave me a quote fo the car which i thought was quite reasonable so im going to take out a loan and buy the car out right (monthly payments on the loan cheaper than the lease which might suggest how much they were asking per month) which in the long run (6 years) will save me a few quid and tell the leasing company (Lombard) where to go. It was a three year lease and was going to buy the car at the end and keep it for a further three. I was wondering how much a 3 year old Roc with 30k miles would cost? This also means if i want to mod the car i can. IMHO this is a better deal!
I get my lease through work its a perk of the job......recruitment and retainment! Works for me.
Admittedly with the lease you're not really the owner but you do get the option to keep after 3 years (i'll probably get another roc or whatever takes my fancy at the time).
I like leasing cos for me it takes all the stress out of motoring. I need my car for work and i need something reliable and a lease company that supports me when it isn't (i hope the roc never comes under that heading).
