Small black shinny square in the top of the dash

Post by peter.vw »

Here is a puzzler for you , In the middle of the top of the dash is a small black shinny square of plastic, can anyone tell me its purpose?
I am wondering if this is were the aerial is for those that have built in Satnav, in which case would it be possible to connect the auxiliary aerial socket on a Tom Tom to it so you could then put the device say on top the ash tray

Probably the antenna for the remote key fobs, it's often there or on the headlining by the rear view mirror

I was lead to believe it is part of the climate control system, some call it a sun load sensor/air sensor, the sensor is there so the climate control system can compensate when the sun heats the upper cabin, if you have the auto setting turned on and the temperature set at 19.5, if the sensor detects that cabin is starting to heat up the system turns the fan speed up automatically to maintain the desired temperature.

I Think !!!!!!! :hyper:

Yup, as above, its a light sensor for the climate control, you'll sometimes notice if its overcast on a warm day and then the sun comes out blazing, the fan will speed up at the same time. The key fob sensor is in the same place as the auto rain sensor. All in the manual!!
