Scirocco R; awesome! but what's next?

Post by pat15312 »

so i have been reading the reviews from Autocar etc. about this car and i can't help but find myself pining for it!
however i can find an ounce of happiness if i take into consideration the fact that:
a) i'd never get insured on it
b) it is around £265.96 per month more expensive, over 48 months... (£11000 premium over my car at 7.5% interest)

also, i keep thinking to myself that this isn't it... i am certain there will be something else lurking around the corner... perhaps a year or two down the line.
Evil D mention it before, I can see them reintroducing the "Storm" marque. I also wouldn't immediatly discount the bringing back the Rallye for the Golf... perhaps not with a supercharger but still, the name could be re-used.

the fact that they are using the old FSI GTI Ed30/S3 lump is evidence enough for me... VW have yet to work their special edition magic on the new TSI 2.0 engine.
maths would lead us to expect any RS/Storm model would provide at least an extra 10hp on top of the 265hp it has atm, but commen sense would suggest that they are almost certainly aiming for the big 300hp to blow all other hot hatches away!

so what do we think? is 265hp enough for this generation of hot hatch? will it be another 4-5 years before 300hp is commonplace?
...or like me do you suspect that VW secretly already have something planned?

How about 4WD? The latest Golf GTI has it, perhaps VW has a Scirocco "4" in the works.

A ralley edition might not be far off the mark..

Hmm, 4WD, 300HP... the only downside is, what would we do with our cars then?

Cars... computers.. technology in general. There is always something better in the pipeline and I suppose it is if you are willing to hang on - or do you just take the plunge?

Whenever I change cars (which is relatively often  ), I always consider the devaluing of the car I am driving while 'waiting for something better'. I did this very recently and quite successfully when I bought an Eos  and didn't like it at all... I swapped from a beloved Mk5 Gti but wanted a change after driving GTis for many years (mk3,4 and 5). So I knew there would be something better, but didn't want to stay in the Eos, so bought another Mk5 GTi, trading in my Eos. I actually got money BACK from that deal and the GTi was better specced. VW were on the verge of introducing the Mk6 so GTis were being sold with lots of extras - I got leather and B pillar tinting for no cost! The scirocco then was announced and buying the GTi meant I had more to put into the deal at the end as it was devaluing more slowly than the Eos... it worked very very well for me!

So wait for the elusive and possibly imaginary Storm? the 4wd...... hold your breath? Not for me :) I can't WAIT for the R :) it is going to be awesome!

i've already decided on my next car; Mitsubishi Evo X... was speccing one up last night :)
if there is nothing new from VW in 3.5 years as far as the Scirocco and Golf go then i can't see how i couldn't go for this... see below for what i mean...

a scirocco r DSG with everything is about £33000.
a golf r DSG with everything is about £40000.

an Evo X *FQ300 SST** with everything is about £33000.
an Evo X *FQ330 SST** with everything is about £36000.
an Evo X *FQ360 with everything is about £40000.
an Evo X *FQ400 with everything is about £51500.

*the number after FQ, if you hadn't already guessed, is the bhp that the 2.0 turbo engine produces.
**SST is the equivalent of DSG (dual clutch automatic with paddle shift).

so why buy a scirocco r DSG when you could have:
a)an extra 35bhp
b)4 wheel drive
c)2 extra doors
d)1 extra seat

for the sake of PEEPS
so why buy a golf r DSG when you could have:
a)more room
b)an extra 95bhp
c)better handling

also, i would imagine there is some discount to be had from mitsubishi... forget about it from vw on the new r models!!!
anyways, food for though...

I agree Anakin :D

I did look at Mitsubishi and Subaru once.. but the build quality was not VW standard at all. And they are really baseball cap cars

LadyROcR

unlike Civics (including Type R ) which are Baseball cap/Flat cap cars... play the game next time you see one! Is it a flat cap driving or baseball cap??? Hmmm?

Because they're horrible, have gash build quality and are generally driven by tossers.
Truly vile.

When you eventually place your order make sure you go out and get yourself a good supply of baseball caps, and some Clearasil.

I do own a Civic Type R but as much as I hate to break your vision of a civic driver, I don't wear a baseball cap! And the ep3 civic (2004 model) is a great looking car - doesn't use the best plastics etc, and general build quality isn't the best but Jap reliability is pretty impressive. Still trying to decide whether Scirocco R is my next car or not!

PS. If you wanna play a game, look for a type r driver when he's in VTEC and see how big his smile is!

Mr Joe

so is it a flat cap :)?

and I'm afraid the only experience of VTEC is my daughter's kiddizoom camera. I know the digital enhancements on the camera are fun, but playing with it while driving..... isn't that dangerous :)?

All in jest of course! Good luck on deciding on the RocR

Well as most Evo drivers are spotty little chavs, then Clearasil will be useful for clearing upi your adolescent zits, and the baseball caps will be well cool innit? :D

Mileage is pretty good thanks and depreciation is likely to be very modest! :D
was songs of praise good today?
TBH, thought it was a bit disappointing. Not enough hymns for my liking. :D

Well you can be the amongst the first spotty baseball wearing chavs with a crap £33k Mitsubishi. Well done, you should be proud of yourself.
As for being able to afford a £33k Mitsubishi, don't be daft. I would however rather spend my income on tasteful items....a smart house, school fees, a second car for my lovely wife and foreign holidays.

Ah, but only once a week. ;)
Seriously Pat, don't do it. Mitsubishis are horrible and in a few years time you'll only be embarrassed at your choice (I should know, I bought a poxy Nissan ;))

i actually sat in two evo x at MPH at earl's court at the weekend...
they are a bit crap inside tbh... especially the £51k fq-400 offering. you'd have thought it would be a lot nicer than it was.
the £33k fq-330 was a bit better because you didn't expect as much. also didn't have quite as much carbon fiber, which is usually a bad thing... but in this case was much better!
so yeh, i think i'd get bored of the interior quite quickly... however there is no denying it would be awesome to drive.
think it will have to be 2nd hand porsche cayman s :D
