"Modified" Iphone/Ipod question

Post by kauka187 »

Hi there.

I was wondering if anyone here had a jailbroken iphone/ipod that was now modified so that it could go into disk mode. Like what the programs TouchDrive etc do and whether this method allowed the standard usb to mdi cable to be used with the said iphone/ipod instead of having to purchase the dedicated ipod cable.

cheers

I would imagine that you could plug your iphone's USB cable into the female USB cable that comes with the car. I do that with my Blackberry storm and it treats the phone just like a USB stick.

No the iphones/ipods dont work like that because of their proprietary storage system so its the reason that out of the box it cant be used as a storage device because its not normal, unless its hacked.

Im just annoyed that I have to buy a special cable just use my ipod.

Not if it's set to "disk mode" as you describe. Then it's basically the same as a FAT32 drive so it should work if you use the USB cable in the MDI NOT the ipod cable. I.e. Use the USB cable that came with your iphone/ipod and plug that into the female USB cable in the MDI.

I actually just decided to buy the ipod/mdi cable instead of trying the whole jailbreak thing. And I actually have no problems with it. Maybe you have a bad connection?

Unfortunately you can't set the iPod Touch or iPhone to operate in disk mode. It's a shame but without extensive hacking it's not possible.
