Engine idle noise??

Post by samir786 »

Guys,
Took my car to see a mate the other day who just happens to be a mechanic, and he was surprised at the noise the car makes when idling. He describes it as a quick 'knocking, ticking' type of noise. He said hes heard it before on the golf MK5, but was surprised the Scirocco is making such a noise, especially as my car is only 4 months old. Do you guys experience the same noise or is it me?

I Believe it's to do with the high pressure direct injection system and is normal. He's right the mk5 gti did a similar thing

I think it's a general VAG thing. My old TT and the 1.4 Polo I bought for my ex both made exactly the same kind of noise. Pop to your local VW garage, fire up any of the new petrol models and will almost certainly sound the same.

This is good to see as I was a bit concerned about this - my friend suggested it was direct injection related too - which makes sense when I would describe the noise as kind of dieseley!

It's totally normal. My 2.0 TFSI Audi TT sounded exactly the same from new. Sounding "a bit dieseley" is the perfect way to describe it.

I have exactly the same thing but with me it's my steering column. Sometimes I wouldn't hear it at all and sometimes it would rattle through my music. But when I apply pressure or pull at my steering wheel it stops.

Some bad engineering maybe?
