Fixed Clicking Clutch Pedal when pressed and released

Post by LukeLukeLuke »

Have had this problem for over three years on my 2.0 diesel. Every time I depress the clutch it clicks and then when I release the pedal the click happens again. It sounds like a piece of plastic slipping into and out of place at the top of the clutch lever assembly.

I have been on a few wild goose chases reading through comments suggesting that there is some sort of switch for cruise control or even suggesting that the noise is normal. Even my garage couldn’t find out what the issue was.

However today I fixed the problem by following the instructions found here (pictures included) : http://forums.tdiclub.com/showthread.php?t=252066

1. Undo the three screws under the dashboard footwell that provide access to the top of the pedal assembly. Torx screws by the way.

2. Right at the top of the clutch pedal lever you will find a small hole on the right hand side. It’s about 1 centimetre square, with a white plastic fitting inside that will move ever so slightly when the pedal is pushed. This is what is causing the noise.

3. I managed to find a small pin / nail that was about 1.5 cm long and wedged it in the tiny gap through the small hole. Screwed everything back into place again and the problem is gone.

This has been annoying me for so long I was actually thinking about selling the car but now it’s fixed I love my car all over again.
