Hi guys,
Looking at getting waterpump and cambelt done on 2013 cr140. Looking at VW they have quoted £948.05, midlandVW say £560. Just wondering how much you guys paid and why VW wants nearly a grand to do it.

It’s the same with most main dealer prices.
They will most likely for things like that be substantially more expensive.
£560 for a VW specialist sounds reasonable to me, you could probably find a local garage who would do it for a little less, however the specialist is likely to have more experience with your car (that’s not saying a local garage won’t do just as good a job) but another thing would be when you come to sell the car, work done by a VW specialist can be nearly as good as main dealer.
Some small garages are equally as good as larger main dealers and specialists in terms of experience and can offer a really good personal level of service and if you are planning on keeping the car for some time and peace of mind of having the job done outweighs the cost difference (full main dealer / specialist service history is less important on a for example 15 year old car than a 2 - 3 year old car) then it’s worth maybe exploring that, there’s a little garage down the road from us who is always busy because he’s really good at his job, he oversees everything his lads do and his reputation is everything but it terms of the stamp in the book, no one knows who he is unless he’s been recommended.
People do always complain about how much a main dealer charge, you have to bear in mind they generally have huge overheads (Massive workshops, high staff members , in premium locations) whereas smaller garages have smaller overheads and can pass those savings on.
Shop around, if you do manage to find a price you are happy with or someone recommends someone to you, check reviews online etc to make sure you are happy.
