Head lights

Post by JR607 »

Why are my headlights on all the time?
When they're off they're on when on auto they're on but when you turn them on it's the only time the dash lights come on.

They all do it. Mine is a 2010 (60 plate) and also does it.
I believe they can be coded to be switched off but I was lead to believe it was to do with the countries that require headlights on all the time but I could be mistaken.
Hope this helps

If you have halogen headlights on a pre-facelift model, they come on as soon as you switch on the ignition as they are acting as Daylight Running Lights (DRLs) . The "auto" setting on the switch is basically redundant. You can code the DRL function out and have the headlights operating as they should. VW basically getting around the DRL legislation on the cheap.

R models have a separate LED DRL in the bumper and other models with the optional Xenons have separate DRL bulbs inboard which can be switched on and off within the setting menu in the cluster.
