Sat Nav - RNS 310 or RNS 315

Post by Jakehh »

Hi all,

After a wee bit of advice please. Had my scirocco since new in 2012 and have never updated the sat nav software version. Running version 0263, whatever that means... I either have the RNS 310 or 315 model according to the handbook.

My sat nav use to work perfectly (apart from new roads since 2012 obviously), but now it's randomly showing me in the middle of the ocean, or driving across fields etc.

When I try and input a destination it fails to identify a route.

I've tried resetting the factory settings in the main menu, but no luck. I can't try updating the version either as I have no way of burning an update onto a CD.

Could the likely culprit be the aerial/antenna itself?

As you can tell I'm a complete car noob, so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, it sounds like the RNS can't get a fix on the sattelites. You can check this information in the maps app IIRC.
This is a common issue, the antenna on the roof gets corroded due to water ingress and fails. You can replace the antenna, but it requires removing the ceiling liner. Quite a nasty job. Your other two options would be an aftermarket antenna (https://retrofitsw.co.uk/product/fakra- ... l-antenna/), which you can place somewhere around front dash, OR get a aftermarket headunit.
