No 'roc for me for a while...

Post by Deacon »

I recently started climbing and today while abseiling down I fell - only from about 15 feet up but I've apparently fractured my arm. Doh.

There is a very pretty 'roc on my drive I can't drive. Double doh.

NO WAY!!! Get well soon!! you're just going to have to do lots of online research on mods while you can't drive....

have to ask though, if you were abseiling surely you were attached to the wall?!

Sadly my rope man lost his grip on the rope and gravity took over!

It was just one of those things, could have been me who lost grip on the rope and him who fell - just not my lucky day. I'm lucky really, poorly arm and a bit of whiplash, could have been much worse. Bit of a bugger that I still have a week and half of hols left though!

Hope its just your arm and not your wrist. When I broke my wrist it was 6 weeks in plaster and and another 4 weeks afterwards before I could manage to drive.
A plain arm should be a lot simpler and quicker for recovery.

My wrist is a bit buggered but not broken, I've got whiplash and I should find out about my arm for sure today when I have to go to the fracture clinic. I don't think it is broken myself as I have a lot more movement than I would have thought with a broken arm (and I've never broken anything yet so I don't see why I should start now!).

Well after spending another half day at the hospital I got bad news and good news.

The bad news was that they think I have either torn a muscle and a tendon in my arm and have a non displaced fracture in my elbow or I've just torn the muscle and tendon. Apparently non displaced fracctures in the elbow are very difficult to see as the elbow is difficult to x ray.

The good news was that they gave me a load of hardcore painkillers, so at least it's not hurting much now, and because the fracture (or not) is in my elbow and non displaced they don't cast it as it can lead to permanent loss of mobility in the elbow if it is cast.

So I've got a week with my arm immobalised then I have to work on moving it as much as possible before returning to the hospital in a few weeks to check on my progress and arrange more treatment if needed.

Well, after pretty much four weeks without driving I'm hoping to finaly get back behind the wheel on Saturday and take my 'roc for a spin. If you think the wait for your order is bad you should try having one sat outside begging you to drive it and not being able to take up its offer!!

I like your thinking and October half term may bring a few little treats for the 'rocco (if I can get time - damn those pesky kids!!)

Not back behind the wheel yet - am coming off the pain killers today as they are not conducive to driving! So providing the pain is ok then I've got a little trial journey planned for Saturday. Back to the hospital on Tuesday when hopefully they'll take me off the weapons grade painkillers and onto something a little nicer so I can have the balance of reduced pain and being able to drive!
