Electrical nightmare!

Post by medicsource »

I have had the problem with windows shuffling when turning the engine over to start it. This was reset by VW dealer and normal again for all of about 2 days. Since then I have noticed that settnigs in the Highline computer like the autolocking, are randomly changing. Worse though, the radio.....

When starting the car, the radio turns onto the splash screen. None of the buttons work, only the volume. It is therefore stuck on radio one at the moment. Annoyingly though, it turns off every 2 minutes or so for about 30 seconds, then back on. I tried to just turn it off with the button at the point it was on.... this worked.... briefly..... Then turned itself on again.

Is this simply an ignition switch problem, or is it more serious than that? Going into dealers tomorrow for looking at on tuesday. Anyone any ideas as I am getting really pee'd off with this now. Not been a good a experience of VW so far!

also forgot to mention that the sat nav randomly flicked onto night mode in broad daylight on the motorway! No trees, bridges or anything!

Yes, I have seen this previously. Did wonder if it is the ignition switch, but wasn't sure if that would explain the stereo going sompletely haywire!

I couldn't see them on, I looked, but hten it is difficult in the daytime and I do keep it in Auto!

I'd hazard a guess at one of the main Electronic Control Units rather than the ignition switch.
You could try disconnecting the battery for 10 - 15 minutes to see if it all resets itself. Unless anyone knows whether disconnecting batteries on Rocs can cause other problems.
