Engine wont turn over

Post by Buttsy »

Hi guys. Have a problem with my 1.4 tsi 09 plate. She doesnt usually let me down but after a quick trip to the shops, i got in and turned the ignition, pressed the clutch to start up and no response. Im not getting any warning lights as afr as i can see and I didn't get the click to indicate a battery fault, but did take it off to test it and all was fine. A friend spoke to a mechanic and he said its probably the clutch pedal switch, which ive ordered and is coming today, but would appreciate your thoughts as i know very little about cars unfortunately and have had a look to see if i could find the clutch switch to change it, but cant see even see where its located after removing the bottom panel just above the pedals. Many thanks. Martin

Double check the connections to the battery and starter. Also check none of the fuses are blown, especially the big ones in the engine bay. It's not unknown for the ignition switches to play up in early Rocco. Sadly it just a case of trial and error until the cause is identified.

I would have thought if it were a faulty clutch switch, the message "depress the clutch" would pop up in the MFD as it does if you forget to depress the clutch.

Thanks so much for the reply. I did check the fuses and they were all good, as were the battery connections, but stupidly didnt check to the starter, but shes gone to the local mechanic now as he had a spare few hours, but will post what he finds incase its of use to anyone else who may have a similar issue. Many thanks again, its much appreciated.

I look forward to hearing what it is. Hope it's something simple and cheap....
