Crumbling seat foam

Post by 650max »

My Dad's '65 plate 1.4 with cloth interior has a problem with the drivers seat, we keep finding crumbs of seat foam in the rear footwell under the back of the drivers seat, it appears the foam is starting to crumble away.

Discussions with the supplying dealer to see if it's a warranty issue (manufacturing fault?) led nowhere, they are blaming him for getting in and out of the car wrong? They say he should push the seat fully back to prevent rubbing too hard against the seat bolster which is damaging the foam, we disagree, this is his 11th Volkswagen since 1988, all bought new and most have had sports interiors (bucket seats), none have ever done anything like this.

Has anyone experienced anything like this? I understand there is a known issue with passenger seats that could possibly damage the foam but have any drivers seats been affected? Is this something worth pursuing with VW rather than the dealer or perhaps trading standards?

Thanks

I also notice everytime i get out of the car i rub against the side support. But last time i built in seat heating and foam was undamaged. You have to take of the clothing to see whats happening inside.

I do the same and the seat material seems to be rubbing away :(

I have exactly the same issue, the seat foam crumbling away at the back of the driver's seat, on my 15 plate Scirocco. Never been an issue on any other car that I have owned, so I doubt that it is to do with the method of getting in and out of the vehicle

I've got the same issue on my 2015 Scirocco R Line. I have the heated seat option, but I have noticed that the previous owner has made the bolster have wear on it. The car is going into VW tomorrow for some other work as part of the DasWelt Auto warranty scheme, I am going to mention the foam crumbling and see how I get on.

Will update the post soon!

Got the car back Thursday, DasWelt Auto doesn't cover seat as they are just classing it as wear and tear.
