Window wont go down so door can be opened/closed

Post by liamraff97 »

Hello.
Recently my driver side window stopped working. it wouldn't go up or down using the controls. it turned out the window regulator had broken and needed changed. I changed the window regulator and now the window is working when the controls are pressed.
The problem I have now is that the window motor has seemed to have 'forgot' that the window should go down/up slightly to allow the door to be opened/closed. To get out of the car I have to manually put the window down with the controls. How can I reset this back to the windows normal settings, Please help.
*The passenger side window is working as it should.

There's a reset procedure for the window drop, have you tried it?

It's something along the lines of:

Hold window down button
Wait until windows reach the bottom and then hold for an additional ~3 seconds
Hold window up button
Wait until windows reach the top and then hold for an additional ~3 seconds

It may even be in the manual actually...

i think thats for the 1 touch windows.

if it's not going down when you pull the key out etc. is the new controller brand new? if 2nd hand is it from a scirocco?

I'm guessing you did get a controller specifically for a scirocco and not another vw?

It might a coding issue with the new controller. As I understand it, the controller is generic and used across a number of models and is coded for the Scirocco so the window drops on opening / closing.

Obviously best to compare the code from your door before the new controller was fitted to what it is now. But I guess that's not an option or you'd have done it.

So other thoughts:

Get someone with VCDS to read your door controller code. Post the code and what options you have, age and model of car. See if someone with the same options, model etc will check their code and compare. Options are important as stuff like folding mirrors, puddle lights will change the code. Different models are important as for example pre-facelift have the boot release switch on the door, post-facelift don't which will also change the code.

Get someone with VCDS to read your misbehavng door controller code and the other, still working, door controller code and compare coding. You'll probably need to compare bit and byte by byte as the two codes are going to be different anyway. They'll be different because stuff like having mirror switches and two window switches on the drivers door but not the passenger door will mean different codes. Find something else different and that may resolve your issues.

I created this tool for someone else who was having issues with their door coding: " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If the passenger door is working properly, you can do the following:
* Get someone to read the coding from the passenger door and enter that into the box labelled "Original Passenger Door Coding (Module 52)"
* Click the "Decode" button. This will then update the check boxes with the options that are fitted to the passenger door.
* If you have the boot release button in the drivers door, tick the box "Rear Lid Remote Unlock Button".
* If you do not have the boot release button tick the box "Rear Lid Remote Unlock Button" anyway, then untick it again to get the correct coding for the drivers door
* Make a note of the current Drivers door coding (just in case)
* Recode the drivers door with the code displayed in the "New Drivers Door Coding (Module 42)" box.

Hopefully that will get everything working as it should.

Hello everyone!
I am facing this issue: last week I had to replace the window regulator on the driver's door as it was making a strange noise. After the job was done, I notticed that when I pull the external handle to open the door, the window won't go down for the door to open. It does go down when I press the unlock button, when I remove the key from the ignition, when I open the door from inside...but it won't go down when I try to open the door from outside. Before the regulator was replaced it did go down when the handle was pulled (though with a little squeak).
The mechanic tells me that we have to replace the door handle(?) or lock (don't remember which) which is responsible for that little drop of the window because it is obviously broken. He insists that this tottaly irrelevant to the reguralator replacement, that he hasn't done something wrong during the replacement and that it is just a coincidence that the door handle/lock failed this way after the replacement.
As far as I'm concerned I am very skeptical about it...
What do you think?
Anyone had any issues with window dropping down so the door can be opened and how did you deal with it?

Thank you for your reply!
You think it's a coincidence that it broke while the car was in for the regulator replacement or, perhaps, it broke because of the replacement? (i.e. by doing something wrong)

I've had loads of issues with the passenger side window dropping halfway, as well as an intermittent issue with the window refusing to drop before opening and closing the door.

Swapped out window control module for second hand unit (same part no.) and has made no difference.

Now thinking it could be a fault with the microswitch in the door lock mechanism but thought the micro switch just controls the locking and unlocking of the door?

Does anyone know for sure?

Thanks

For anyone having a similar problem I managed to solve it by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes to drain the power. This reset the software and everything works now perfectly. Glad I thought of this as I was about to pay someone to solve this for god knows what price. Pretty much the same as removing a CMOS battery from a motherboard to solve issues and revert to factory settings. I would think this would work for a lot of electrical issues so this will be the first thing I do anymore to troubleshoot any misbehaving electrics.
