Strange rattling/vibrating coming from blower
This annoying problem started yesterday, the noise comes from behind the dashboard on the passenger side when the blower is switched on, gets louder and more violent the faster the fan speed is set. Heat does come from the unit, but I didn't want to run it too long sounding as dodgy as it does.
Honestly the worst time for something like this to happen, had to drive home with the windows open in freezing temperatures to stop the windows getting too steamed up
This youtube video is the closest thing I could find which demonstrates the noises coming from behind the dash - about 20 seconds in " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Anyone have any ideas what it could be? Would be greatly appreciated, thank you

Re: Strange rattling/vibrating coming from blower
It could be one of a few things,
- Something like a pen has fallen in.
- Fan blade has been damaged and is now running out of balance.
- Bearings in the fan motor have failed.
- Leaves stuck in the air path and vibrating in the air flow.
It's a case of removing the glove compartment and having a good look around.

Re: Strange rattling/vibrating coming from blower
Hmm, I don't think anything fell down into the system, nothing seems to be missing from my glovebox
I will have to investigate tomorrow by looking under the dash, bearings were my first guess too but I shall report back tomorrow with my findings
Cheers for help

Sorry about that - i think it's coming from the rear, probably a result of all the food i've been shoveling in this week.

Had to laugh at your reply! You provide a lot of useful info and we don't normally get these issues from you!blower wrote:Sorry about that - i think it's coming from the rear, probably a result of all the food i've been shoveling in this week.

Re: Strange rattling/vibrating coming from blower
Update: So I managed to find the cause of my problems......and I feel like a tool
No damage done to any of the fins or anything, just a stray leaf in there and it's sorted. I don't even remember putting that in the glove box, but at least it wasn't a pen or something

Re: Strange rattling/vibrating coming from blower
I never knew the blower sucked air out of the globe box? Normally the air intake is on the bottom of the front windscreen. I think somebody replaced the interior filter and cleaned the inside of this air box.

Lol - that's brilliant!...although I can't laugh too much, about 10 years back I had a similar issue and it was a royal mail receipt that somehow managed to work its way into the blower.
When recirculation is on air is drawn in from the cabin, although I think in the above scenario that particular item just got behind the glove box and got eaten by the blower.I never knew the blower sucked air out of the globe box? You're right never thought of that. But weird place indeed for something to get sucked in.

I burst out laughing as soon as I popped it out and spotted the tissue looolblower wrote:Lol - that's brilliant!...although I can't laugh too much, about 10 years back I had a similar issue and it was a royal mail receipt that somehow managed to work its way into the blower.
Yeah my guess is that when I shifted into reverse the auto re-circulation turned on and must have sucked it through from the back of the glovebox, it is quite a poor design for things to be able to drop down the back of the box, but I guess I've learnt my lesson about having small items in there.

Glad it was something simple.
