Damp passanger footwell

Post by Cooz93 »

I've been noticing a smell of damp in the car lately, and also moisture inside the windscreen. Hoovered the passanger side footwell and noticed it was pretty moist. Lifted the carpet and the section below was soaked. Had a quick look around and can't see any obvious lines of leak, and the carpet about the floor section is dry..

The cuttle looks clear and unblocked. Anywhere else I should be looking? Any help appreciated, need this sorted!:)

Poke plumbing wire down the drain hole under the windscreen.
It may look clear usually the blockage is on the way down not on the top.

If the windscreen has recently been replaced it could be that also.

Love a bit of moistness myself.

In the old mk4 golf this would signify issue with the heat exchanger in the car, does the damp smell sweet?

Check the passenger door seal and that your passenger window is going right up and sealing.

Might also be worth pulling out the pollen filter to check it's dry. If it's not, it'll give you a clue.

Also think about how the car normally sits as water doesn't always gather near it's source of entry.

Which side is the drain at? Have the passanger side scuttle off and it's clean and dry, no blocked holes etc

No sunroof mate. Trying to dry the floor out so I can run some water over the seals later, see if any leak.
Ideally I would remove the carpet but seems like a big job

A blocked ac evaperator drain is also possible, it's somewhere behind the centre console on the bottom.
But i think it's on the driver side on a rhd.

Isn't there a wire guide to the engine bay there? Or where the ecu is sitting, maybe this seal is damaged.

Coolant has a distinctive sweet smell so it should be obvious if the cause is a leaking heater matrix.
