What would you do?

Post by The Darkness »

Ordered mid April, received a call saying my car has been built and should be ready to collect in ~2 weeks (mid july). Or I can wait until 1st of Sept and grab the 59 plate.

Will it make much difference to future value if I wait for the new plate?

What would you do?

Cheers

I might be in the same situation as mine is supposedy being built this week. Dealer advised it would make circa £600 difference in 3 years. Unless I only have to wait an extra 2 weeks I don't think I could bear the thought of it sitting at the dealer and me not driving it though!

I also suspect that cars waiting for their owners are kept in the showroom with all sorts of fat arsed punters crawling all over them. I just couldn't stand that!

I can't give you a concrete answer about future resale values, however my gut instinct is saying go for it in July! The difference between the two potential dates is 1.5 months, so it's not as if it's only a week or two longer to wait. I really can't see the difference in resale value being anything significant.

Get it and enjoy it :D

It should be the 2010 model too, as people have already started to receive these.

My car is expected mid August. After nearly 16 weeks I won't be able to wait another day

I'm in a similar position, with mine due for delivery at the end of this month, but as it's a lease car I'm not at all bothered about residuals.

Out of interest, do you know what build week you had? Mine was 27, which was last week, so I'm itching to know exactly when I should expect it! :hyper:

Bloke654 - My car was build week 27, dealer told me to expect it 3 to 4 weeks after the build week. Week 27 must be the week for Salsa Red GT 2.0 TDi models! Not waiting till September for mine, already waited long enough and it will also effect the value of my part ex. which was priced to swap before September.

Thanks for thoughts. Mine was build week 27 too; I was a bit suprised when I recieved the call on Saturday saying it was built and would be ready for collection in 2 weeks I must admit. Maybe its wishful thinking on dealers side.

It's not out of the question. Mine was built week 22, arrived at the dealers middle of week 24 and I picked up early week 25.

All just depends on how lucky you get with shipping!

It depends...
If you have a part-ex, and how much less the dealer will give you in September for it. If it's about £500, then change now.
If you have no part-ex, then how much do you value the time without the car - can you get about?
Then finally, how badly do you want the car? - 6 weeks is a LONG time to wait when you could have had in ran in and a few nice trips over the summer by then :D
Of course if you don't need it in a hurry, and are not bothered waiting months and months, then you have to question why are you buying it?

Yes, probably a wise thing to do.
