Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 – Not Suitable?

Post by charliegilmanuk »

Last night I ordered some new tyres from Blackcircles to be fitted on Saturday, based on some recommendations in the tyre thread on here.

Exact specs are: Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3, 235/40 R18 Y (95), Reinforced, Asymmetrical. Car is a GT 2.0TSI with 18" interlagos.

They've just contacted me this afternoon with this, saying they're not suitable:
Could you please contact me regarding your order as I am concerned that the tyres selected may not be suitable for your vehicle?

Having checked our fitment guides, I believe that the tyres currently fitted could be self sealing tyres. Information regarding this can be found on the sidewall of your tyre with the markings of Continental Contiseal or Pirelli Seal Inside.
Has anyone got any experience with this at all or is anyone running these exact tyres? I'm sure a few members here are however didn't know if they were version 2 or 3. Only picked version 3 as they were newer and had better economy/noise ratings at the exact same price.

Many thanks.

I think they are just covering their @rse and advising that OEM fitment are self sealing tyres, which the Goodyears are not.

The tyres will be fine on your car.

Some Sciroccos do come from the factory with self sealing tyres fitted.

Cheers guys, first time I've actually had to buy tyres for a car (low yearly miles/car changes) so I wasn't too sure!

I did double check, and the ones on the front are Continental Conti Sport Contact 5's without the contiseal so I think I'm safe without the self sealing :)

I`ve got them on all 4s and there are no issues at all. They seem better than the number 2 versions

Yeah noticed the 2's were award winners in 2011 or something but on paper the stats for the 3's were better in every way and at the exact same price so a no brainer really :)

Hi, I got the same message from black circles so I rang them up to confirm
Upshot two fitted front tyres zero issues & they stick to the road like a freshly picked bogey in double maths !
