Can a RCD510 accept output from a TomTom Go510?

Technical discussion such as Bluetooth, Sat-Nav, iPods, tyres, brakes, all that kind of stuff.

Can a RCD510 accept output from a TomTom Go510?

Post by anthony »

My car is fitted with the RCD510 unit, and I already have a TomTom Go 510 stand alone SatNav. I was just wondering if any of you clever electronic geniuses know if its possible to somehow take the output from the TomTom satnav and feed it into the RCD510 unit so that the satnav picture is displayed on the panel of the RCD510. I understand that the satnav version of the RCD510 has TomTom incorporated into it, so theorectically, the output should be compatible. Would appeciate any views, thanks.

I can't tell you a certain answer as I'm not an expert on these things but I do have a tomtom and an RNS510 and i would very much doubt that your idea would work. The navigation system in the VW unit has no similarities with the TomTom system except that they will both get you to a destination. You'd need some kind of video-out from the TT which it doesn't have, and you'd still need your TT on the dash to operate the touch screen. Sorry to say but I think you either need to carry on using the TT seperately or buy yourself an RNS510 (which i do recommend!). Good luck!
