I drove it very tenderly for the first day - felt like every car was going to hit me, every passing lorry would side-swipe my mirrors, every bump or notch in the road give me a problem. I doubt I got it over 3000 rpm at all on day one.
Day 2, I was a little less cautious, especially over the speed humps driving up to the school. During the day people kept coming to my office to comment on the car, say how jealous they were, how much was it, was it mine or company (mine), etc.
My husband had his first drive in the evening and I have to confess I sat there next to him cringing, and saying "stop driving it so hard, it's only done 30 miles!!!" He replied "it's not like your diesel Golf 2.0, you need to drive it hard!" We couldn't get home quick enough for my money.....
Today, we went out and I drove again - well it's my car! I pushed it harder, put it in "sport" around the country lanes and it was brilliant! It's so responsive, yet simple to keep in line. Eager when you need it to be, and well behaved at roundabouts and traffic lights. Some numpty cut me up at a roundabout - I was in the rh lane and he drove out right in front of me - at least I know the horn works! People do look, particularly Golf drivers...nice!
Took it round to show my ex-husband. He works for Porsche and of course is very spoiled when it comes to cars - but he loved it! Particularly the colour - which we had thought would be similar to the Cayenne colour "Macadamia" that I'd seen on a GTS. Nothing like it - thank god! We really love the colour - it's pretty much grey, with a very subtle coppery tinge to it, and in the sunshine it's amazing.
We're driving into London tomorrow - will be great to cruise up Knightsbridge and the West End to see if we get any admiring looks. Clearly in terms of the cars we usually see like Ferraris, Bentleys, etc etc, it's nothing special but I suspect that novelty value alone will draw the eye. I have to say that it's probably one of the best cars I've owned - and I've had a few. Audi A3 T sport, TT 3.2 quattro, loads of Golf GTi's. Mind you, it won't beat my BMW Z3 (we had the 3rd one on the road in the UK). We waited 18 months for it - now that was a long delivery time! Same spec as the James Bond car, pale blue on a P-plate. It really drew attention - people would shout as we drove past and toot their horn!
So, onwards in my new VW. First impressions - bliddin' brilliant. Can't wait for it to loosen up a bit and then we can really see how it drives.
Good luck to everyone waiting for delivery - I hope yours comes soon. And to all the other owners out there - I feel like I've joined a very special and exclusive club. Thanks for all the good wishes and suggestions in the rather long wait for it to arrive. It was worth it!

Re: First couple of days impressions
i remember the first time i got in my ca that i have now fresh from the garage brand new, i literally thought everything was trying to hit me, was crapping myself, but after a couple of years i know the ins and outs of it through and through, especially after modding it a bit, i dont have any intension to mod my roc, well maybe the covered cup holder but iv realised that a car always looks better if its just been factory specced up, so ull see that iv added quite a few things, enjoy ur car and appreciate it every time u get in to it, i still do with my car atm, but i now cant wait to get my roc
My car is now for sale, for just £16,000, fair price so please no silly offers
