Haha thats really funny! Yeah i have the car now for 2 months and being 3 weeks ago with the Scirocco to croatia for 2 weeks and he doing great so i am very happy!
The timingchain had to be repaired. This is a common problem with 1.4 tsi's (2008-2009 atleast). Does it still make a rattling chain sound with cold start? I could have get it repaired at VW (onder coulance) but only if it's a certain kind of problem. They couldn't guarantee it could be repaired onder coulance. I'm not trying to spoil the fun of you having the car but be careful man.
I also wanted a faster Scirocco with updated interior (2010). Now I drive a deepblack Scirocco, 2.0 tsi and DSG. These don't have these timingchain problems and less problems in general.
Yeah i know its a common problem but i heard so many times things about the chain, it makes a few seconds a ratteling sound but i hope you know this is normal? The chain needs to be tight up in the beginning it takes about 2 or 3 seconds and then its gone.
I had the car checked at a VW dealer and their diagnose was that it needed to be repaired (onder coulance zelfs). Not sure if the 2.0 tsi has a chain but it doesn't make that sound.
Okay okay, maybe they wanna earn some cash but if the sound stays ( and no motor management light pops up ) like this only at a cold start i am not worried because when the motor is cold the chain needs to be tight up by the chain tensioner.
Options: Done: Rns315 with bluetooth, Steering wheel with f1, full black trim, blacked out dipped logos. Xenon, full LED interior + DRL Coming up: AP Coilover set, 19inch black gloss wheels, dipping my winter wheels black.
Hey guys, i got a 1.4 Tsi R-line from 2009 aswell. The engine was rebuilt in 2012 because the timing chain failed and killed the engine. When I start the car in the mornings usually i hear a rattling noise too for about 5-10 seconds then it stops. Sometimes it makes me thinking if its normal or not, but i guess since they rebuild the engine the timing chain and other parts (tensoiner etc..) was replaced with newer revision parts. The car has done 30.000 km since then, i realy hope that failure wont happen again :/. Fingers crossed.
The noise in my car sounds like the start up of a diesel engine, but its only 1 or 2 seconds and then its gone, so i don't worrie a lot. Hopefully it statys well @SKGR
Michel, this problem doesn't happen overnight. You should get it checked by a trusted garage. Volkswagen offered me to pay 80 percent of the costs unless it was something different than the common problem. I don't think they'd offer that to earn money.
