Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
Hi,
We've used the AG HD Wax and in our opinion, it is a good product and does a good job, however, we find the application a little bit tricky as we find it quite hard to use when compared with other waxes on the market. Also, we feel that there are better waxes available that give more durability and better looks for a similar price.
Hope this helps

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
I am using HD wax, very pleased with it so far. Had not read any reviews of it when first spotted it in my local Halfords and gambled on it. Read an Autoexpress group test recently and it rated very highly and only lost out on price. I would reccomend it but don't buy it from Halfords for £39.99, i have seen it on the net for around £30.00. The tub comes complete with an Autoglym polishing cloth and two application sponges.
It is a bit of a pain to get the product out of the tub and onto the application sponge, but once you have it spreads easily. After allowing it to dry to a haze and bond to the car for around ten minutes buff it off with the supplied cloth. The buffing process can be a little hard work, especially if you try using a cloth other than the supplied one. The consistancy & performance of this product seems very similar to stuff from Zymol.
It seems to bead very well on surfaces such as the bonnet, i often come out to my car after a short shower and find most of the car obviously wet except for the bonnet which is virtually dry because the rain has beaded away.
I am sure it would work very well with a machine polisher which unfortunately i don't have at the moment.
I have washed both the polishing cloth and sponges out several times and they have not degraged. I reckon the tub will probably last me twelve months and allow around 10 full applications.
Given that my car is a Dark Pearl colour the HD was appears to be protecting the paint against minor swirl marks and imperfections in conjunction with the "two bucket method" lambswool wash mitt and Microfibre dying cloth.

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
Bought some today and am disappointed in comparison to my normal wax (Muc-Off miracle shine).
Quick hard to get on the applicator sponge, not too much trouble working in but hard to get off and leaving some white chalky residue.
Not worth the money in my book at all, I think a lot of Autoglym stuff is not as good as expected.
The best i've found for shampoo is Muc Off Ubershine, best Wax Muc Off Miracle Shine, best wheel cleaner and sealent: Poor Boys.
I'm no pro by the way, just someone who likes to keep the car clean.
Some of the worst stuff i've used is Maguires, especially the bug remover, completely sh!t, nozzle clogged, didn't remove bugs and left white cr@p all over the car.

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
Sorry to hear you weren't impressed, i haven't used any of the Muc Off range and it wasn't featured in the large group test done by Autoexpress so you are better placed to say how the two compare from your experience. One comment i have is how hot was it when you used it on your car and was it in direct sunlight? I have had no problems with the first couple of applications on warm overcast days but when the sun came out on my last application i did find it hard to remove. I have found this in the past with other products, ideally you want to apply it in your garage (if you are lucky enough to have one big enough) I have used products in the past which are easier to remove in all conditions but have found these not to be so enduring as the HD wax so far. When mine runs out i will try something else no doubt and will consult the detailing gurus that we have at our disposal.gossa wrote:Bought some today and am disappointed in comparison to my normal wax (Muc-Off miracle shine).

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
Thanks jon, I don't have any garage i'm afraid, large or small! I do access to some covered parking at work so i'll try again in the shade.
The Muc-Off shampoo and Wax is still more impressive IMO as I can apply it in sunlight and it comes off a treat. However the Muc-Off wheel cleaner isn't that good on brake dust, great on muck and mud in wheel arches though.
On a value for money front, Halfrauds are doing a 3 for 2 so I got the HD wax, large autoglym shampoo and a flexible Autoglym sqeegee thing so saved £15 on the lot. Not bad considering the Wax comes with applicators and a nice quality microfibre cloth.

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
I'd no problem with the price, i picked it off the shelf in halfords to check as it wasn't priced. when the girl at the till tried to scan it she found it wasn't on the system. She then went to the shelf and took a barcode label from the shelf which i'm guessing was for another cheaper product. Only realised when reading this that she scanned it through at £12! bargin or what. I'd say it does a good job but I wouldn't pay £39 for it when this one is done.

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
Hello
Need some advice in regards to AutoGlym, the dealer has tried to sell me this addon when I buy the car, cost £300 including the leather etc.
I did some research on the forums and even called AutoGlym and the advice is: the Product does not protect against Stone Chips (missles as she called them
) , or Bird Poo, however has atmosphereic protection.
It also stops the water from staying on your windows, which is quite strange as my Car comes with a fairly old feature... Window Wipers, and heated rear screen.
Anyway, My car colour is Candy White, non Metalic naturally.
I have a simple plastic spray container with water and fairly liquid mixed ready for Bird Poo....
And leather wipes for the seats...
I might be answering my own question here, but would like some feedback?? whether its worth spending the money on AutoGylm or shinny new Sils and Pedals instead Thanks..

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
I think you are refering to Autoglym Lifeshine which is not a wax, its marketed as a sealant that is supposed to last for (up to) 10 years.
I've gone for this option although I too am not sure if it's money well spent. The salesman (who I know and respect) said it would mask the orange peel effect that you see nowadays because of the galvanised metal underneath, would help to protect against minor scuffs around the door handles and make the car easier to clean. I'll let you know if it works..................

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
Thanks Guys.... yes please let me know...and yes I will probably get the Sils anyway..
The other thing to note, is that I'm not looking to keep the car forever 'Three years max'. My PCP which like most has a bubble Value. Afterwhich I will get an updated model I hope, or a different VW.

Re: Autoglym High Definition Wax
Lifeshine is unnecesary imo, you would be better investing in a pot of wax and topping up every few months. The window bit you mention is good though. It means that you don't get drops of water sitting on any of your windows as it just runs off.
Get the pedals and sills!
