Funny Noise DSG moving slowly in 1st Gear

Post by edwheels »

DSG on my car has been perfect. It is always so smooth on all changes, even the 1 to 2 and 2 to 1 which must the hardest to get right.

I have one small possible issue though, but wondered if anyone else had come across this (it's the 7 Speed version, build date early 2014). 11K miles on it.

After many minutes of really slow start-stop, usually M25!, (never out of 2nd) weather hot or cold (doesn't matter) I will occasionally hear a slight 'rubbing' sound. Sounds and feels like a brake binding but oddly seems to be from the centre of the car/gearstick rather than one wheel. It's fairly quiet - passengers don't notice it. Guess I am hypersensitive to car noises.

I suspected the DSG, but it's not on take up from rest or on changing gear, but when moving in Gear 1 and before changing to Gear 2. In fact I have only heard in when in Gear 1 moving slowly. There is never any vibration, juddering, bad changes or other symptoms. On 99% of all journeys I won't hear it at all.

Another possibly is it is a brake and linked to the hill start assist thing - don't know.

Anyone experienced similar?

Try switching to S-mode the next time you notice it. See if that helps. If it does, then it could be a mild case of the typical DSG judder, although you should have the revised clutch pack.
