Air conditioning question? 2Zone or Climatic?

Post by Gary_Monkey »

Can anyone explain the difference between:

• Air conditioning, ‘Climatic’ semi-automatic control
• 2Zone electronic climate control

Is 2Zone electronic climate control better or just the same with the auto air circulation. Does it blow any colder then 'Climatic'. I've only ever had 'Climatic' on VW's so have no way of comparing.

Is 2Zone electronic climate control worth the £400 it will cost me to upgrade on my order of a 1.4 TSI?

Evil Derboy wrote:No sure about the names of the two but the basic system just has an AC button. The uprated one will let you set what temperature you want the car to be kept at and it does everything else automatically. Driver and passenger can have choose their own temperature as well.

In my personal opinion I think that climate control is much better and I would pay the extra for it.
Cheers Derboy. Do you know whether they share the same unit (i.e. the compressor bit under the bonnet)?

Basically I just want to know if it blows colder than the standard semi-automatic unit. Mine (basic a/c on my current 2.0 GT TDI mk 5 golf) doesn't blow that cold on very, very hot days.

Is it worth the extra £400 to spec up?

I reckon (but don't actually know) that the hardware under the bonnet is identical. The semi auto system has temperatures marked on the dial but that just sets the temperature of the air coming out of the vents. If you get the 2 zone you just set it to auto, dial in 19.5 degrees and leave it alone! I'd definitely spend the extra cash, especially as it will be a desirable option on the car when you come to move it on. Then you just have to get your head around the fact that the illumination on the display is blue, unlike any other instruments / displays in the car!

No doubt about it, it's worth spending the money. While waiting for my Scirocco to arrive i'm still driving my Polo GTI. This has only semi automatic but the car before that had fully automatic. At first I really missed the automatic, over time I got used to it but wished I still had the climate control. Being able to have 2 zones at different temps is a bonus so I ticked that box on the order form.

Go for it
I have had climate on my last four cars. 2 dual zone and 2 single zone. If it wasn't standard it would be the first tick in the box i would make. From my experience it is bomb proof too !!
IF IT'S NOT BROKEN
I'VE NOT TOUCHED IT YET !!

The HVAC units which is actually bolted into the dashboard not under the bonnet will most probably be different between the climatic semi automatic and the 2 Zone Climate control, not just a different control unit. Primarily the 2 Zone Climate can direct different temperature air to the Driver and passenger and maintain the cabin to a preset temperature automatically adjusting fan speed and incoming air temperature as and when required, hence the name. This requires different HVAC hardware to the climatic semi automatic system which doesn't have either of these functions, VW would not put the higher spec more expensive HVAC on cars with climatic. I would definately go for the 2 Zone, the only annoyance for me is that the Roc does not have rear vents like on the Golf. Hope this helps.
