Value this scirocco for me! 2010/DSG/TDI 140
Hi, New to the forum, because I'm going to own a rocco soon!
Going to look at a diesel scirocco tomorrow, was just wondering what you guys think it's worth, and what I should offer, also any tips on what to look for etc etc, (I'm quite bad at buying cars and not waiting for other ones to come along)
Silver
4 owners... < should I be worried about this?
62k on clock (some history at dealer some independant) ( every 10k oil changes )
2010
2.0 TDI 140bhp
DSG ( DSG service done at 38k )
Heated black leather
Panoramic roof
Sat Nav (RNS510)
rear sensors
parrot bluetooth
He has it up for £10,000 What shall I offer him, I doubt it's worth 10k, I've seen better models closer to 9,500, I doubt he'd take 9?
This is the info I have, from the limited iphone pics, it looks okay.
I can't get insured on the better 170bhp ones, so can't look at those anyway, even though they are more likely to have xenons!
It's a private listing, never bought private before so don't really know what to do, any checklists or anything? Buying guides?
Sorry for all the questions!
Thanks!

A car's only worth what someone is willing to pay. If you've seen better for less then why bother?

guess so, but the better ones are 170bhp models which I cant get insured on, but the seller doesn't know that so I'm hoping to bargain him down to like 9.2 maybe 9.3k

If the seller reads this forum, you've just let him know your whole buying strategy☺
It's hard to value as each individual has a different perception on what something is worth. So effectively, go see the car and offer what it's worth to you and if the seller doesn't agree then walk away. Spec is nothing special and there are plenty of 140s out there.

Christ I'm never selling my roc then. 13.5k nearly 2 years back I paid for my 170 tdi dsg. Certainly wouldn't want to take less than ten for it & on paper it's not as good as the one in the op's post [THUMBS DOWN SIGN]

170s tend to be rarer so command a little bit of a premium so I wouldn't worry too much.

check lists id be going by would start with
not in any specific order id say its the top end of its money for a private sale id say its more a garage price make sure you check it over properly as it should be perfect for the money depending on how your paying him ie cash ?
i do change cars often and i like to have a deal so if it was me id offer him 8500 and go from there its a buyers market at the moment 10k buys you a lot of car these days
1 - gold hpi report not a txt check perform a full hpi check from my car check or a place that checks finance etc as well
2 - perform a mot history check here with the reg only free https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; this will give you a good idea if the cars had the miles shaved between mots you would be amazed how many cars have ,
3 - check service history not just stamps in a book there almost worthless you can buy stamps online etc check dealer invoices garage recipts paperwork etc it should of had a cambelt change at 40k
4 - check for any missing accessory's , owners handbooks , is the took kit complete in the boot with locking nut , does everything work etc
5 - turn the ignition on number 2 so just the dash lights are on and check what warning lights light up mainly engine management light , steering wheel light traction abs etc (people remove or tape over bulbs to hide faults a lot on used cars i know every trick in the book)
5 - how does it drive listen for owl noises when the turbo kicks in almost like a siren noise behind you or any grinding noises these are common signs the turbos about to drop its guts into the engine and destroy itself
6 - if the cars dsg this is a must leave the car ticking over till it gets upto temp and listen to the gearbox if it rattles and sounds like a trains coming walk away this means the flywheel needs changing and its very expensive on dsg cars i hear a lot of tdis with the boxes rattling badly ranging from mapped low mile cars to average 100+ k cars
7 - how's the drive with such low miles id expect the car to still feel tight and solid no rattles or vibrations does it feel like a low mileage vw to drive you can tell a lot about a car by feeling how it drives ive driven 62 plate mk6 golfs that feel tired at 70k because they have had a hard life from new but ive also driven sciroccos and golfs a3s that have done best part of 150k and still feel tight and new to drive because they have been well looked after ,
these should point you in the right direction ive owned and worked on a lot of vag group cars in the past so theres not much i haven't seen the turbo and gearbox and the main weak point on the tdi dsg cars the engines are fairly strong if there looked after

Re: Value this scirocco for me! 2010/DSG/TDI 140
Cambelts are 120K miles / 4 or 5 years (depending if registered prior to Sep 2009)
That is VW UK recommendations as the factory only specify the mileage limit in their service book.

Re: Value this scirocco for me! 2010/DSG/TDI 140
I know all belt driven mk5 and a3s are every 40k they used to be 60k intervals but they got put back to 40k as so many were failing me personally due to the amount I've seen fail there's no way on earth id trust a vag group belt till 120k it seems a big jump from 40k on what's pritty much the same engines that the mk5 and a3 used anyway I can't see there being a major difference between them

Seems you are correct according to my handbook and info online they are indeed 120k or 5 years now due to less stress on the belts good info to know that mate cheers

Well let's put it this way, my rocco is on a 62 plate, 0 previous owners (VW FINANCIAL GROUP) it had 62k when I bought it, DSG, Panoramic roof, Heated Brown leathers, and all the other extras. I paid 12,500 for it 3 months back, and it was from VW themselves! I would honestly look for a much better deal, trust me keep looking and you'll find something much better
