Mapped or not

Post by Iceash »

Hey all,

Had my rocco 3 weeks now, had new injectors, coils, spark plugs and inlet de-coked.

The speed is incredible, torque steer, wheel spin 1st and 2nd, dry and wet.

So this got me wondering if it's mapped?

And way to tell without asking the garage?

Btw, if you've not had a de Coke done, do it! Transforms the car!

+1 on decoke!, always said coke is bad for you :)

Do a few 0-60's, probably easiest and cheapest way to tell if its been remapped.

Ah! Good point lol. If chipped, what should I expect 0 to 60 times to be?

If using the speedometer with a manual timer or an OBD2 device then the 0-60 is around 6 seconds with a DSG or a good manual shifter.

The official 0-60 is 6.9 seconds, but that's because its using the real speed - the speedometer is usually between 5 and 10% out, always showing more speed than reality.
Also that's 0-62 and not 0-60.
A GPS based 0-60 timer will give around 6.7 seconds.

All this is for the original 210ps GT 2.0 TSI model.

Basically if you're measuring closer to 5 seconds with a timer and speedometer reading, then you're mapped.

De coking, clears all the carbon from the inlet, so allows the air to enter the chambers correctly. Also if coked enough the inlet valves won't completely close.

I'm sure someone can explain it far better than me though

You could also check how far she revs up, my 2.0 tsi GT revs to 7k with APR :)

if top end it still feels as quick as it does in low gears then its mapped.

I feel your pain, I had an injector blow last week. Hopefully getting sorted today.

If a care has been decoked, eventually its going to get coked up again. How long would this take?

susprised you get torque steer. I have an R, which is quite a bit up on power from the GT, and I don't get any torque steer at all, not even hammering it in 2nd.

The day I test drove the R, I test drove a focus ST, and it torque steered like an absolute beast, I found it totally unacceptable.

Maybe the XDS system in the R is tuned more aggressively to deal with the power?

is XDS enabled on the GT as standard?

Yea I'm surprised re the torque steer, thankfully it's controllable lol

I'll have to try some 0 to 60 at the weekend, maybe I'll get a surprise or two

worth seeing if you have XDS enabled, and if not, see if someone can enable it for you in VCDS as it will all but eliminate the torque steer. It is completely absent in my R

I tried to enable XDS and Hill hold last night on my 2008 GT got coding out of range and an error uninitialised module which nearly gave me a heart attach as my ABS light came on with incorrect coding and couldn't find speed sensor.

My understanding is that it can just be turned on, as its simply a function of the stability / ABS program. There are various modes of severity it can be enabled for (e.g. 1, for only light interference, up to 2 for strong) the R comes preset to 2.
