Water leak in boot - 2010 1.4tsi

Post by pappasmurf »

I've had the car for approx 9 months. When I bought the car the rear screen was replaced as a few elements had failed. The obvious blame would be here but the leak seems to be specifically along the passenger side in the boot. There has been a stench in the car that developed over the last 2 x weeks. AFAIK nothing has been spilled anywhere, specifically milk. I'm in the West of Scotland and the rain has been extreme in the last couple of weeks. Anyone else had this type of issue?

I had a water leak in mine where it was soaking in the passenger footwell becaus of the roof bars. They have not been fitted properly by Arnold Clark and it's still an ongoing issue. Not really any help for your problem. When deutschetek (west end of Glasgow) were giving me initial suggestions he said it might have been leaking in thru the windscreen because it's not a genuine VW screen. Sounds like it will be the rear window not sealed properly.

My guess would be boot seal or the seals around the rear light clusters.

Do you have a tow bar or anything on the back?

Looking through old work that has been done on my scirocco before I got it, there was a water leak which was caused by a poorly fitted how bar how, I don't know but it's a possibility if you have a tow bar.

No tow bar mate. Possibly the lights. Never been disturbed by me but possibly the previous owner. I plan on treating it over the weekend

Tow bar is an odd one as the Scirocco is not approved or homologated for towing.

If you look at either side of the tailgate you will see the drain channels pass straight over the rear light clusters. To replace a bulb the rear cluster needs to come out so often the seal gets damaged when refitted.

Previous owner had a bike rack on the back so I have a tow bar at the back, not a tow ball just the small bracket, dodgy wiring after putting the rear of my car back together was the problem of my documents are correct :)
