Who's clever with electrics then ? USB port to RNS510 ?

Post by uklee »

So - who's clever with electrics then ?

i bought one of these off ebay -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/USB-Switch-So ... 3397610d0f

Yeah , i know it says to 'do your research prior to purchase' buried in the blurb , but i reckoned it was cheap enough to be worth a punt

Anyways - you've guessed it , with the socket switch installed - i don't have the yellow 'USB' plug on the back of my RNS510 to allow a straight forward connection

Image

in fact , none of the euro versions of the RCD / RNS head units that i can see on google images and various VW forum searches - has this yellow USB socket. :(

So , do any of you clever types , know how i could possibly hook this up as a more convenient USB data connection to my RNS510 head unit , rather than the 'awkwardly placed MDI connection via a separate connecting lead' under the arm rest ?

I guess , that if all else fails , i could get one of these fella's off ebay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CAR-DC-12V-to ... 4ae80b68f7 , and rig up a convenient 'fast charge' USB socket next to the ashtray for my iphone - but a pukka data connection would be nice !

any thoughts ?

you could always splice that into the connector that joins to the MDI?
you wouldn't need to run a booster as the volt drop would be minimal.

Other than that, no clue mate - besides trying each pin directly to see if one of them acts as an input?

I would also be interested in doing this Lee, so if you find a way then please keep me updated.
I believe a USB socket should be standard in all Scirocco's.

Maybe - but i aint about to strip my head unit apart .

Looks like i'll be hooking it up as a 'power only' usb port then ..
