Rear seats loose

Post by andrewr »

Evening all,

Got a slight problem on my '09 with the rear seats no locking in place securely

The N/S one is fine, it latches into place securely and has very little free play

The O/S one however has a good few CM of free play and can be moved a further few CM with very little effort, it does however still hold on the latch so isn't an MOT failure but still of concern.

I've had a look but it's pretty difficult to see the mechanism in full to try and diagnose it. I can see it latches on both the left and right hand side of the upright, but very little else. I've done some searching but this appears to be an uncommon problem, and also due to the rather unique rear seat design of the Scirocco the guides for Golf etc are pretty much useless!

Any guidance on best places to look or how to try and diagnose/fix this? I have it booked in at local specialist to sort some other bits out (drop links, CV boot, and brakes) and they said they would have a look then, but thought it was worth trying to sort myself if I can!

Thanks

Its a pain to get our really, the seat itself (the bottom part) pulls up no problem. Then its the side cards which need to come over, be careful when doing this as parts can snap. Replace clips too as they will break, just visit VW. Then its bolts either side to take it out and better look at the mechanism.

Still not quite sure why there would be play if its locked into place, but could be something wrong with the cable.

Will have a go tonight, so the base just lifts up, no bolts or anything?

The side panels seem to be a massive jigsaw of interlocking parts!
