Re: Sports Cat or De-Cat
There's another option now with the new APR cast down pipe. With having a sports cat located further down the pipe and having the shaped initial bend I read they got more hp improvement than their decat.
Just a thought as you could still mate that to a BCS cat back exhaust. I'm considering this option with no centre box.

Re: Sports Cat or De-Cat
APR and a few other companies have now been able to produce the same or more power with a cat vs a decat. Up till recently the decat option has been the best thing for gaining the most power, but has the obvious issues with legality and omissions. An example is the A45 AMG race car producing 600hp from a 2.0 engine that has a cat.
I spoke with APR to see if I could mate their new downpipe to either a BCS or Armytrix system and they weren't able to say either way. Understandably they did try to sell me their RSC system but I felt a valved unit was better choice personally.
After long conversations with tech guys at both BCS and Armytrix I decided the BCS was the better unit for a few reasons. The main one was the cat they use in their Soorts system. They are using a 5 inch wide cat instead of a 6 inch wide cat and utilise a wide bore. This is less restrictive and has a core matrix around 50% smaller than an OEM cat. The reduced core in theory keeps the temperature higher in the downpipe to keep flow rate high. As stated in another post they can wrap the downpipe before and after the cat using Motorsport grade wrap & clamps. If you are looking at bigger power either now or later on I would recommend wrapping to reduce under bonnet temps which effect the intake charge temperature.
I was suitably impressed after my research and ordered the Powervalve Sports system.

Re: Sports Cat or De-Cat
Im interested in the powervalve sports system but i have a 2.0 tsi, do you think they could make one fit if i got a new diffuser or would i need an R rear bumper. Would it even mate to a 2.0 tsi? Bit clueless in that bit of the car :/ (id prefer R style exhaust)Stu13R wrote:APR and a few other companies have now been able to produce the same or more power with a cat vs a decat. Re: Sports Cat or De-Cat
Right.... update Guys
Exhaust Fitted Nigel at BCS has been great, always willing to help at all time so can highly comment their aftercare & overall support.
I was unsure about having a res or non res but decided to listen to Nigel who suggest not to have non res and .......... he was right its pretty loud on full throttle and sounds like a monster.
Only issue i have at the minute is the middle box hitting the body at time so will jump under and take a look when i have chance but im happy with it and im hard to please lol.

I think I'd go with non res as I've heard with milltek resonated they can drone on the motorway or is this not the case with bcs? Sorry for all the recent question Scirocco R is a new learning curve for me I'm used to supercharged Mini's

Resonated is with a centre box and non resonated is without. Non resonated is the louder one on low rpm or no boost but as you said can drone.Topcat1910 wrote:I think I'd go with non res as I've heard with milltek resonated they can drone on the motorway or is this not the case with bcs? As far as I'm aware BCS don't offer the non resonated exhaust and certainly advised me non resonated wasn't needed with a Powervalve system.

Think I'm going to order a bcs, I'll give them a call in the morning and mention you pointed me in their direction. Any ideas how much louder it is than stock? Want it loud but not chavyStu13R wrote:Resonated is with a centre box and non resonated is without. You can always ask them about the centre box options. Personally I think no box would give drone but you never know they may have a smaller centre box option as it looks fairly long. I'd go that way if it was an option.

Re: Sports Cat or De-Cat
i didnt go for the valve system, i went for the prestige, it has a middle box and under load it pretty loud but not ridiculous it sound nice.
My only issue with the BCS is that the rear section comes in multiple bits and they didnt send me clamps and a spare rubber so half way through the job i had to go n buy bits but im guessing they may have overlooked that. oh and that the middle box seem to rattle on drive train but nothing major that cant be sorted with a jiggle about when i get chance.
But im totally happy with it.

820 i think for full system with discount for being a forum member. To be entirely honest with you i had a MK 4 GSI with a miltek non res and it sounds similar to that. the thing is the after car fron Nigel at BCS is there.
