Updating your RNS 510 I can help with - you need to find out it's version number. This can be found physcially on it if you're taking trim and bits out or via the 'hidden menu'. With the unit on hold down the setup button for a few seconds and a menu with some radio options and a 'test mode' entry or it may go straight to it

From that go to system info and it will tell you your hardware and software versions - you can then get the right downloads from http://www.my-gti.com/3868/volkswagen-r ... repository" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; and burn and go!

If you've got an early version you may find the settings thing doesn't work - in that case install https://robpol86.com/guides/US-RNS-510-Video-In-Motion/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; video in motion and it enables it. Also early revisions did not have a HD partition for POIs so you may have to do a stepped upgrade so it does this. That will erase all the music/maps but i imagine you're upgrading your maps too

LED's should be CREE, I've had issues with cheaper ones.

I've just done the sidelights and number plate lights.

Buy cheap buy twice

AxG, which Cree's would you recommend for the w5w DRL's?

I'm not sure posting links to download the maps would be cool as strictly that's rather naughty, but a google search with the unit type and a few more words should do you fine. They can be found on the torrent sites

http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.vi ... 1171258098" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I bought these, my only issue was that the outside diameter was just flush with the housing of the right parking light. So it was a tight fit, but the rest were fine.

Maybe get a spare set in case

Did they present any errors or have you got load resistors fitted?

Yeah I think the cree bulbs have a built in resistor.

No errors,

Had a cheaper set of LEDs in the numberplate which worked great until I swapped the sidelights then they both stopped working for no reason, even when I swapped for new versions of the same type !

But tried standard and cree and they both worked fine still

Just tried the link again, it seems to be ok. Also i had to hold down the setting button for an extra 15 or so seconds when the FM and AM appeared, and then it it opens another menu with version info.

Also does anyone know which firmware has the 7 digit postcode update? or is that under the map update?

Yeah it's from the firmware not the map updates. The details should be on that my-gti link, but it's worth upgrading to the latest version you can so quickly becomes irrelevant
