Rear bulb replacement

Got the message and lamp display on the dash for "Rear left side lamp out" sure enough the bulb has gone.

I have to say what a bl**dy stupid design for replacing any rear bulb! You have to take the whole rear light cluster out, then once out struggle with 4-5 fragile plastic tabs on to remove the bulb panel on the rear of the cluster. Total rubbish on all my previous cars and any other non VW I have had you just take a little panel out in the boot and bingo!

On the plus side I went to see if the bulbs in my Dads Golf MKv were the same (not to swap one of course :nod: ) but that design looks even worse with two bolts to remove!!

It must be a con to get people to the dealers and charge an hours labour!!!

Just gotta see if Halfords stock the right bulb now.............

I seem to recall that my old Mk2 Golf used to be terrible for burning out brake light bulbs - I must have had to replace them three or four times in the three years I had it. I hope the the 'roc doesn't suffer the same problem....

i work in a vw garage and some blubs 2 replace are fcukin annoy can take awhile

It's lucky you don't have a Renault Megane, was watching a neighbour having to take the front bumper off and other bits to change a bulb! Now that is poor!

Oh gawd, those plastic clips...

One thing I learned from my Golf mk5: Don't try and change the bulb if its been cold out - the clips get very brittle and snap off with the least provocation :(

changing the bulb is easy, most of the vw's you have to take the rear light out, and its only usually one large clip, or two bolts at the most, then they slide out, and you just "pinch" the clips in and the covers for the bulbs will just pop out :yes:
