Boot light/power socket low voltage

Post by Dimbit »

I've run into a really odd problem. The boot light doesn't work. Further investigations show it's getting about 0.3V. So I checked the power socekt in the boot too. It's putting out 3V.
I pulled the trim away today and checked the wiring was free and running ok, checked at the pins in the connectors and it's the same story there, 0.3 and 3V
The fuse is ok. When I pull the fuse the 3V goes away, so definitely the right fuse.
Dear internets, what's going on?!?

Do you have the ignition on?

The 12V power sockets only work with the ignition on, although they do still habe a "leakage" voltage when the ignition is dwitched off. The latter would explan the 3V.

Regarding the boot light, check the microswitch on the locking mechanism.

Does the "open boot" symbol come up on the MFD display when it's open?

Also be aware, there is a timer on the boot light that switches it off after a predetermined time period, to prevent the battery being run down if the boot is left open.

Another thing as well, if the battery voltage is low, some non essential circuits are disabled to reduce the load on the battery.

Thanks, so...
Power socket does work with the engine running.
Battery voltage is good.
The MFD does show the boot's open.
The luggage light does not light :-/
