HID kits that DO work

Post by matt_j_smith »

Hi,

I tried to fit an hid kit to my scirocco, it was meant to be canbus error free but I always had one light stop working. you would have to turn lights on and off again - So I sacked them off. I've tried two kits in all and both had the same issue, the NS light would go out.

Had anyone got them in and working ok? if so, can you send me a link to what ones you have?

I have a 61 plate GT.

Thanks!

Fit upgrated halogen bulbs. Such as Osram or Phillips.

HID bulbs are actually illegal for road use (they do not meet TYPE compliance) and not only that but the beam pattern presented by a HID retrofitted H7/H4/H1 or similar bulb in a headlamp housing designed for halogen bulbs will produce a poor quality spread of light which is incredibly blinding to oncoming road users.

Buy some genuine Xenons to retrofit, or see if there are any aftermarket headlight manufacturers that make a project housing which would give a much better beam pattern for use with your HID kit.

thanks.

Without sounding like a dick, that wasn't what I asked. I have fitted the best bulbs I can buy ( in my opinion) which are Phillips ... did a lot of research into them and i'm confident they are the best all rounder.

I have previously ran HID's in in the stock housing ( until they start giving errors) and they didn't dazzle at all. I appreciate many doo, but the scirocco beam pattern is such that it doesn't throw light into other peoples eyes. I've put hid's in cars before ( many of my drift cars) where it was ridiculous and taken them out pretty much straight away after. I tested this a lot.

Re. the spread. I found that although it didn't seem as consistent as a normal bulb it was undoubtedly brighter with a better range.

Lastly, I intend to fit projector lenses into the headlight to give the best combined output. - yes they should be self levelling and yes they should have washer jests. They will have the latter, but im not fussed about the self levelling, I don't believe they work even in standard xenon equipped cars anyway.

thanks for the input :) I understand where you are coming from and I hope im not coming across too much like an arrogant bellend :D

Do you mean you fitted Phillips HID (H7) bulbs?

It's not the bulbs which dictate the beam pattern but the lighting units.
A guy who comes to meets local to me has a Scirocco with standard halogen headlamp units but a HID kit in there and it causes me much discomfort!

I don't care about self levelling or washes :) Just the beam pattern.
I would wait until you have retrofitted the correct projector lenses.

I don't want to sound like a dick but I HATE HID kits in stock headlights. You also avoid all of the canbus issues you are experiencing.

Hi there.

I'm glad I have joined this forum. Very helpful advice. I was just about to purchase this kit for my rocco. http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/221507218413?nav=SEARCH" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

After reading this post I'm not to sure. The guy did assure me that I would not have any errors/issues. I just wanted to ask if these osram bulbs are any good... do they have a xenon look to them?

If you have a link to these osram bulbs that would be appreciated.

Thanks for ur help in advance.

Alright guys, previously done this to my rocco, the hid's won't work properly in them due to the convenience control module in them (runs all the lighting), after so long eventually the light will not turn on at all even when normal bulbs fitted back in, also it stores a permanent code on the system which only vagcom can read and also it can't be deleted so if your going to do this be wary because if your under warranty they will not cover you because they know exactly what's been done.

Hope this helps :)
