DSG whine

Post by andyhan »

Hello - have a slight whine mainly in second gear when driving only at slow speeds, looking for a parking space type speed, accelerating through the gears its silent, is this normal for a 2008 DSG? Gear oil was changed at 40000 and its on 50000 now, new tyres fitted recently so not got the saw tooth issue related noise, no upgrades, box has no driving issues or other noise, works perfect.
thanks in advance

Mine does this and always has, I've driven allot of DSG cars, some whine and others don't, it's quite well known within the vw scene. Not sure the reasons behind this as I haven't had one apart yet.

Have you spoken to anyone at VW yet?

I know someone who had a noise issue with his RS5 and thought due to being 5 years old there was no point saying to the dealer. When he was talked into it they said there had been a modification on later boxes due to some component failure and after negotiating he made a small contribution to have the part replaced and another oil change. Worth a chat.

Bit of a hijack here, sorry!
I'm potentially buying a 2.0 tsi GT with a dsg box this week. There's 36k miles on it. I hear the gearbox oil needs changed at 40k. Does anyone know how much this costs to get done?
Thanks,

It costs £180 for dsg oil and filter change at any vw dealer.
