No display on RNS 510 satnav system - please help

Post by jayroc »

Hi guy,
I hope you can tell me what might be wrong with the display / screen on my RNS 510 satnav system
The LCD screen and display suddenly stopped working and now just shows a blank white screen.
Has anyone ever experienced this before?
I hope you guys can tell me what might be wrong.
I look forward to your advice and reply.
thanks,
Jay

I had this on mine, did a bit of searching and several sites suggested a lose cable inside (I took it apart - nothing), other sites suggested a firmware update could fix (did firmware upgrade - nothing), finally got to new main board required at a repair centre (can't remember which one but there are loads if you search for them) - they wanted £250 - so I sold it on ebay for £100 and bought a second hand one!!

iforland,
thanks for your response and advice. The car is still under warranty so I'm taking it straight back to the dealer to sort it out. It's their problem!!!

Did you managed to find out what was the cause for the white screen? I am currently having the same issue.
I've removed the RNS hoping that the issue will be a loose cable, but nothing.

Cheers

Yes! I was told it's the motherboard and so it was replaced and it's now working fine.

Thanks mate.
If you don't mind asking, what was the cost of the new motherboard?

Cheers

The dealer told me that the job was contracted to a company that specialise in car audio and satnav. The dealer did not disclose what it cost them to replace the motherboard.
As you may be aware a new RNS from dealer cost £1700 but you may want to consider buying a much cheaper used one online or from a company that specialises in car audio satnav.
I used VW Citygate but I would not recommend them due to bad experience and poor customer service.
Hope this helps.

Hi there, when one of the speakers on my RNS510 stopped working this guy was really helpful and sold me the part to fix myself.

Thanks mate, really apreciate your help :)
The only problem would be that I am quite far from UK, so I guess I would have to search a local repair shop, or go to a vw dealership.
Cheers
