You can see/hear from this video at around 28 sec

Cold start 1.4 TSI
Re: Cold start 1.4 TSI
Sounds normal to me, well, sounds like mine; and is similar in description and sound to that which other 1.4 tsi owners have reported. Its the Secondary Air Injection pump bringing the catalyst up to temp, I think. And yes, mine hiccups as well!

Re: Cold start 1.4 TSI
Normal. Before starting the engine turn the ignition to the on position, the primary fuel pump will then build pressure in the fuel line, this will help to eliminate the knocking noise the fuel injectors make when starting the engine. When the primary fuel pump stops then the engine can be started. The 1.4TSI is not fitted with a secondary air injection pump; the engine management lets the turbo boost 0.2-0.4bar while the engine idles just above 1000rpm. During cold mornings the engine may shake/hiccup a little bit while this process is taking place for a minute or two.dexterche wrote:Is it normal on morning cold start engine to be bit more noisy for 30 sec and do some "hickups" sometimes, I dont know the right word.

Useful info, thanks for the correction :-)polo6rgti wrote:Normal. Re: Cold start 1.4 TSI
1 times happens to me the engine to shut down and 1 times was close to that. I start the engine (waiting pump to finish), put in reverse, take out the car from garage, leave it to neutral and get out to close the garage. Car started shaking and RPM varies from 1200-500. No warning lights nothing. I add bit throttle and car back to normal, then when "starting routine" finished everything back to normal. 1 times happens car to shut down from shaking. I started the car again, everything was normal then.
Has anyone experience that and what can be wrong?
note: this happened on cold morning start

Re: Cold start 1.4 TSI
Had similar on mine and it sounded a bit like the exhaust was blowing for a few seconds soon after start-up. Dealer flashed the ECU under warranty and no problems since. Apparently my problem was a VW service notice but only done if customer complained.dexterche wrote:1 times happens to me the engine to shut down and 1 times was close to that.
