Scirocco Central

Having a VERY frustrating recurring issue with my Scirocco and I’m trying to figure out if its related to a brake booster leak.

The brake booster is making a hissing noise, so I know that needs replacing. However I’m getting an issue with the engine from time to time as well and I’m wondering if its related. It started about 3 months ago when the throttle started to surge at idle, the EPC light came on and the engine started misfiring causing the car to lose almost all of its power. I’m getting the fault code 01314 (Engine Control Module fault). The first time this happened I took it to the garage and had the throttle cleaned, coils and plugs replaced and it was running perfect again. Second time I had the throttle cleaned out and again, back to normal. 3rd time and I just let it sit for a while, cleared the fault code, and again back to normal. But it’s after happening again now and I still don’t know the route of the problem.

Think the next step will be to replace the brake booster and hope this will solve all problems.

Has anyone else faced anything similar to this before? Do you think it could be related to a brake booster leak?

Your car will run incorrectly with a brake servo leak as it will be taking in un metered air (air after the air flow meter) so the car will need to adjust fueling accoringly via the lambda, as brake servo leaks are inconsistent it can cause various fluctuations. Would think this is all related :-)

Slightly related & don't like to bring bad news.
I had my brake servo replaced about a year ago as it had a leak, but I wasn't getting any issues like you detailed.
Just to give you a heads up on the 2.0 TSI I was told it would cost you about £1200 to fit & replace because on the right hand drive models they have to drop the engine to get to it.
Luckily for me I had extended warranty...................................I hope you have to.

£1200 seems very expensive, I got a quote from my mechanic for €450 for parts and fitting. Here's hoping that he sticks to his pricing!

The last time I fitted a servo it did require the engine and box to be lowered, took me around 8 hours, so £450 including the parts its extremley cheap. I think the servo costs around £280 if I remember correctly. The whole job should cost at a indi approx £560, that also includes brake fluid and full brake bleed.
