High Rev Issue

Post by Sebbristol »

Hi,

I bought my first scirocco 3 weeks ago and for some reason the revs go up and down without actually me touching the gas pedal. It hapoens when I drive and when the car is parked up. I can hear the engine going louder and when I look at the rev counter that goes up and down. It's a 2.0 TSI GT.

Does anyone know what could be the issue ?

Dad had the same on his Fabia and it was diagnosed as a problem with the throttle pedal (same unit as in Scirocco) and has been fine since it was replaced.

If you can get your car to somebody with Vagcom you could look at the throttle position and see if it was moving on its own.

Do you recon VW dealer will have this as I'm taking my car for diagnostic on Monday?

Dealer will have the equipment to look at the pedal position.

Yeah I never use AC at the moment I just keep my windows opened. Do you recon that would be covered under warranty ?

Car can also increase the idle revs if it detects a low battery voltage, in order to increase charge rate. Apart from the A/C, the Secondary Air Pump also can raise the revs when running. On a diesel, DPF Regen also raises the idle speed.

Okay thanks well I'm taking it to VW Monday to have a diagnostic so hopefully they'll be able to see what's wrong!
