Pzero tyres Odd Difference

Post by selleym »

Got a second hand Scirocco on Wednesday and while cleaning it this weekend i noticed something strange. :?
One of my tyres looks like it fits slightly different to the other 3.
From what i can tell reading everything on the tyres that they are all the same tyre!
(Pzero Rosso 235/40/18)
Now onto the pictures:
This is what 3 of the tyres look like. With the alloy protector bit of the tyre poking out a bit.

Now this is what the other one looks like

Which hardly sticks out at all...

Is this one fitted incorrectly?

Thanks :)

Is it on the wheel the wrong way round? Check the sidewall of the three, there should be a mark that says "ersterno, exterieur, outer". Does the fourth odd one say the same? If the pattern is directional (can't recall for the Rosso) then it should be obvious if not less so.

Thanks just had a quick check and they all say "exterieur" on the outside...
Maybe Pirelli slightly changed the tyre design maybe the odd tyre is of slightly different age?

You can tell each tyres age by looking at the DOT code - eg 2309 would tell you the tyre was manufactured in week 23 of 2009

Front Right (4410) (Odd one out)
Front Left (4512)
Rear Right(3509)
Rear Left (3509)

After looking at all the dates above it doesn't really help haha. :fall:
The odd one out was produced between the newer front and older rear.
Looks like the tyres were never rotated either.

Any ideas? Must be some tyre Gurus around :D
Isn't a serious issue. Well I don't think so anyway...
Just curious to why it should be different...

I would email Pirelli about it

contactcentertyres.uk@pirelli.com

They were very helpful to me when I had a tyre query.
You will need to give them the full 12 digit DOT code which you will find on the tyre sidewall, (I would send them the codes on the other three tyres as well as they will probably ask) and send them the pictures you have posted here.
Well worth taking the time to do this as at least then you will know if you have a fake Pirelli or the real thing.
Dave.

I have sent an email to them.
While having a look at all the full Dot Codes i noticed that the odd one out has some differences.

Front Right (93 4M E466 4410) (Odd one out)
Front Left (XB 4M E295 4512)
Rear Right(XT 4M E295 3509)
Rear Left (XT 4M E295 3509)

93 instead of XB/XT
E466 instead of E295
