I am currently awaiting delivery of my new car and am considering selling my Scirocco privately as opposed to taking the part-ex price offered by the dealer. Although the deal they have offered me is acceptable, there appears to a be a limited supply of used Scirocco's on the market which is keeping used car prices high. For example on a recent search of Auto Trader, I could only find ten cars in the whole country of a similar age and spec to mine, and the prices were considerably more than I have been offered in part-ex. I would have to fork out for a service if selling private and run the risk of having any maintenance done that turns up as a result of that, but just feel begrudged to let the garage get there hands on my car then put it on there forecourt for £2k more than they gave me for it.
In other peoples experience, how easy have they found it to sell their Scirocco privately and have they managed to achieve a good price for it?
How much do you think my car would be worth? 10 plate 2.0 tsi (210) manual with 30k and fVWsh in excellent condition. Deep black pearlescent, winter pack and rear parking sensors.
Thanks

Re: Part-Ex or Private Sale?
Cars of this value can be difficult to sell privately as potential buyers are willing to pay extra at a dealer for warranty, finance and part exchange. Also, selling a car privately these days is a real pain with timewasters and scammers.
Of course if you find the right buyer you will get more for your car.

I found it impossible in February and March and had my 61 plate GT TDI170 on Autotrader for a month.Moonhead wrote:In other peoples experience, how easy have they found it to sell their Scirocco privately and have they managed to achieve a good price for it
I eventualy took it to my servicing dealer who offered me£15,800 - just £200 less than my Autotrader asking price - deal done.
Never again trying to sell privately.

I sold my previous Golf privately to the first viewer but fully expect offloading the R to be a PITA. At least I have the option of pre-agreed PX to fall back on.
Ask the dealer if you can sell privately and/or try to sell privately without affecting the price you've agreed, if they say yes stick the car on autotrader and for a Pistonheads then see if you get any serious bidders. Expect all the issues raised by everyone earlier but you may find a buyer. Also if the car isn't finance clear on a HPI or similar check expect most serious buyers to walk away unless you're prepared to clear the finance prior to completing the sale.Moonhead wrote:I am currently awaiting delivery of my new car and am considering selling my Scirocco privately as opposed to taking the part-ex price offered by the dealer.

Re: Part-Ex or Private Sale?
I have a minimum part-ex price agreed with the dealer, as my new car won't be ready until late June/early July, and they have told me I am more than welcome to try and sell it privately. There is no finance outstanding and the car is in great condition so may take a punt and put it on Autotrader a couple of weeks before my new car is here, see what interest I get. The dealer did tell me they would revalue my car once my new one has arrived but I can't see they are gonna go above the minimum they offered me when I ordered it cus they've got me over a barrel.
