Fitting new center caps?
Hi
My chrome center caps were fine until I used turtle wax wheel cleaner which said it was safe on chrome.
Its not awful but it has started the corrosion process.
Who knows:
a) what replacements I need (18'' interlagos)
b) where to get genuine items from
c) how to fit them/take off old ones is the hard part I suspect
Thanks,

Re: Fitting new center caps?
They aren't chrome, they are made of plastic.
1. 65mm
2. If in the UK, your local TPS or local VW dealer.
3. They just pop out. Either drill a hole in the centre or use a thin piece of flat plastic on the edge to prise off.

Re: Fitting new center caps?
If the wheels off you just pop them loose from behind with something soft and round (but less than 65mm) usually the wooden handle of a hammer. No need to damage them or prise them out.
Re: Fitting new center caps?
Dont forget the ''offical vw position'' for the centre cap is to have the ''w pointing towards the tyre vale. I kid you not.

Re: Fitting new center caps?
ok taking the wheel off is not an option for me.
can they be removed externally without damaging the surround?
maybe a suction cup would work?

Re: Fitting new center caps?
Like I said on my previous post, they can be prised off with a thin plastic blade. Tjete is a small cut out in the cap to allow you to do this. You could use a screwdriver but there is a risk of damaging the wheel.3t3p wrote:ok taking the wheel off is not an option for me.

Another.option is to drill the centre of the cap a pull off.

Re: Fitting new center caps?
Just replaced my centre caps as they'd gone all milky looking. If you're not bothered about the old ones then just screw in a self tapping bolt or screw and pull them out with pliers. It's really simple and takes seconds.
