Swapping a 60 plate R for a Mk7 GTI

Post by tinners777 »

I have a 60 plate white Scirocco R and am contenplating swapping it, and some money obviously, for a New MK7 Golf GTI in black with leather, DSG and all the trimmings. Thoughts?

MK7 GTI is a lovely car so if you fancy it, go for it. It's not a decision anybody else can make for you

I certainly wouldn't swap a Scirocco R for a Golf GTI unless you specifically want something a little bit cheaper to run or some other specific reason. But I agree with Cuprabob above, it's obviously a decision only you can make at the end of the day, and I'm sure you have your personal reasons. I'm due to change mine very soon and I was actually toying with the Golf 7 R, but after passing another Scirocco R a few days ago I just thought, wow, it really stood out and they do look fantastic, so I'm staying with the Roc. The GTI with the Performance Pack has some good reviews, obviously nowhere near the Roc R power wise but that's not everything and again, it all comes down to personal preference and what you need out of a car. Good luck whatever you choose.

Drop the leather and you are pretty much at Mk.7 R prices anyway! Thats a very sensible purchase with the 3-door manual at under £30k before any discount...

I saw a black MK7 GTI PP in my dealership showroom this morning, looked stunning. The salesman said to me, you can have that one - no waiting list!

4 issues for me though. Can't really afford it, wrong colour for me, it was 5 door (I want 3), and it was manual (I want DSG). Apart from that - it look amazing. Had the full leather trim as well.

The Golf Mk 7 platform brings significant advantages. Without checking any facts I think you will find it significantly cheaper to run a GTi.

More economical, lighter, much cheaper to insure, better infotainment. It's better in every measurable way than a Scirocco excluding looks. If you are OK with the looks, go for it.

The new platform is a different league, if you want a driver focused car wins every day, want a coupe well rocco all way, 600 miles with a golf R this week and cannot belief it's ability to cover ground

I think the car I’m getting costs about £36k when you configure it on VW's site and I got £19500 for the ROC and paid £32 for the Golf

Im getting 3 years free servicing and mats and tax
