Scratched Windscreen

I've noticed a few scratches on my windscreen shortly after scraping my windscreen with an ice scraper.

Is it possible to scratch the windscreen with an ice scraper?

Is it possible to polish these scratches out? If so what product would you recommend.

I've looked into this very briefly in the past and from what I was able to gather it is extremely time consuming to 'correct' glass. It might be possible to remove light scratches however if there is any significance to the defect it's unlikely to polish out as glass is so hard. You would need to use a machine polisher with a Cerium Oxide polish such as CarPro Ceri-Glass and the Rayon Glass Polishing Pads. I believe the technique is similar to correcting scratches in paintwork but it takes a hell of a lot longer.

How come it's so easy to scratch the glass with a plastic scraper, but extremely difficult to polish out?

I used the side that is made from clear plastic, not the rubber bit.

If you have one I wouldn't recommend using it.

Anyone recommend an Ice scraper that is safe to use?

Or is it best to stick to using hot water or de-icer?

The scratches tend to come from using a back and forth motion. You can trap small specks of grit under the blade and then you drag them back. You should just scrape in one direction.

I tend to use de-icer and warm water though. There are people who say de-icer corrodes the rubber seals but I've never noticed it in years of using it on past cars. Once you set off it's likely to stream off the car anyway.

I would advise looking on Detailing World, before buying products or attempting windscreen polishing, Mark.

I've never tried it myself, but I'd imagine that there is very little margin for error when it comes to your pride & joy's windscreen, tbh.

I have some minor marks from road dirt and the wiper blades I would like to get rid of. Got a porter cable 7424 was wondering if this is possible?

Hi, I had several light scratches on my rear window caused by grit on my bike rack. it was driving me nuts so I bought SCRATCH DOCTOR GLASS REPAIR KIT. there is a youtube video " onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; showing how to use this. So I followed the instructions to the letter and I'm happy to say the scratches have gone but it is very time consuming, I did mine over two days, an hour a each day, reason was I was getting bored and started to leave the polisher on the glass longer than recommended (glass is in danger of cracking if it gets too hot) but in the end I'm happy with the results.
