Tail light of an R

Post by Crucifixzz »

This is supposed to be my first thread of this forum. First of all, I would like to introduce myself first. My name is Korbchai and I'm from Thailand. Last year, I went to UK for my master degree at Warwick University. Everything is nice in UK, especially in London. The city is vibrant. :D Since I came back to my home country, Im planning to buy a Scirocco R. Luckily I found one person who would like to sell his car. However, I still have few questions that I want to clarify.

Image

1. Is this seat standard across the R-range? I believe the bucket seat is optional for all Rocco. Am I correct?

Image

2. How do I know whether the headunit is RCD510 or RNS510?

Image

3. The owner claimed that this is Scirocco R. What I have noticed is that the tail light of this R is very similar to GT, which is not cherry red. Is it possible to have an R with standard tail light? I also noticed the wheel is in smoked black. Is it standard?

Image

4. Can I change speedometer to km/h - I mean the analog one

5. He claimed this is '11 Scirocco R. I read some thread saying 62reg or 63reg. What does it mean? What's the main difference between '10 and '11 Rocco

Hi Korbchai, welcome to the forum, ok let's try and answer some of those questions:

1) The seats are optional leather, the standard seat is cloth, they are not the bucket sears, just a leather trimmed standard seat.

2) the head unit looks like the RNS to me as it has the NAV and MAP buttons on it.

3) There is a very marginal difference between the red and smoked tail lights, they could well be smoked but they don't look so dark against the black paint? If they definitely aren't smoked then check the rear end for damage as it may have been in a rear end shunt and had new lights fitted.

4) KPH speedo's are available in Europe, I'm sure you could buy one off eBay or from a main dealer on the continent.

5) that's just the system for registering a car licence plate.

What are the marks on the instruments, is that cracks or something stuck to the front?
RS5, Scirocco R. You can never have enough R's

Welcome :)

Just to add to the above. The white MFD display also shows your speed in km/h as standard, incase you didn't want to go to the trouble of swapping your speedo.
An '11 plate means the car was registered with the UK DVLA between 1 March – 31 August 2011.
The wheels look to be the standard Talladega design but they have been done aftermarket in smoked/anthracite. Looks pretty cool.

I don't think there was any difference between a 2010 and 2011 build scirocco R, the Roccopedia will explain more HERE

I was looking at that myself and I reckon the plastic sheet that protects it from the factory was never removed? Looks like that to me anyway.

That's what I suspected. The rear end might have been damaged, so the owner fitted the 'gt' style tail light. When I compared the photo I have with the rear end of black scirocco r on google, I saw a difference - mine is lighter. As James321 said, I think there's still a plastic covering the instrument as well as the headunit.

Thank you very much. I went through this guide, and I couldn't tell any difference from the photo. May be I don't know what 2010 production really is.
The guide said 'Electronic climate control rotary dial changed to matt black.
## Week 38: Rear roof spoiler was replaced with standard Scirocco spoiler from week 38.'

Im not sure the rotary dial is in matt black and how the '10 scirocco r's spoiler looks like

I don't know what the changes where regarding the rotary dials were either..

Sometime in 2010/2011 there was a factory fire somewhere, and all scirocco R's got the standard GT spoiler instead of the R spoiler due to availability for a period. The difference was the GT spoiler was only something like 27cm deep at its widest point, whereas the R spoiler is more like 31.5cm deep.

Could also be the way the sun is shining in that pic which is showing the lights as being more cherry :)

One more thing guys, do you experience engine oil consumption?

EA113 is known for oil consumption. My Golf had a little usage but my Scirocco does not, so each engine is different (I guess it also depends how it's been "run-in"). VW spec is anything upto 1ltr of oil per 2000km :eyepop:

This depends on luck then, bitmadmax. I read some thread abt swapping k04 into EA888, which can produce comparable hp to EA113. If this is correct, there will no difference. I believe there's no problem about oil consumption in EA888. Is the chassis of R superior to a 'gt'. For the suspension, im planning to install KW coilover anyway. For the brake, im thinking about big brake kit as well
