Withdrawal of the R...

Post by LadyRocR »

good for retention values or bad?

Will it become a more desirable car (that's obviously if they don't bring out a new model R)? or is it already a dinosaur?

Actually, has anyone heard if VW ARE resurrecting the model with a 'nicer' engine? (if that's the reason they removed it in the first place)

I believe the facelift will be released next year and thete will be an R model with the updated EA888 engine, which produces 296bhp in the new Golf R. Whether the 2wd Scirocco will get the same power output, we'll have to wait and see.

I think the prices of the R will hold up quite well as they are relatively rare.

I suspect we are a year away from a new R if there is to be one. The facelift previews in March, supply coming through probably in summer, then the usual delay until the range topper is available just like the golf R after the mk7 launch. If it comes with the ea888 engine, it will probably be circa 280-290. Bhp.

If there is a new R I'd have thought it would have Leon Cupra levels of power so 260/270 bhp and the new GTI PP dif while remaining FWD not the full fat 300 bhp which VAG seem to only be offering with AWD drive trains. I don't think the AutoEuropa Palmela plant is configured for AWD builds?

It will need to have a little more power as the current one is just over 260bhp so I would have thought around.280bhp is a possibility

I recall reading that the VAQ dif is/was designed for power outputs of upto around the 250/270 ps mark, happy to be corrected if wrong :)

the new Golf R has a completed new engine and lower emissions, the cabrio soldiers on though, i think demand and price also comes into play given the Golf R nudges under £30k

I just placed an order for an R on Monday and its scheduled for build week 10... so the factory is still taking orders from South Africa at least. I'm thinking of cancelling though as VWSA removed the ACC and manual transmission options and I'm hoping its added again once the facelift goes into production.

I initially wanted the current shape as I did the very rough mockup below of what the R would look with the new Golf R bumper and I prefer the current look. That's assuming VW use the Golf R bumper when they do the facelift.
