Daytime Running Lights

Post by Geoff Hibbert »

Hi Guys,
My first post here so hello to everyone.
I took delvery of my Scirocco a couple of weeks back but really hate the daytime driving lights.
It has Auto lights anyway so what's the point?? The Auto lights only seem to switch on and off the dash lights.
I have looked in the manual and you can switch them off but you need a VW workshop to do it and they will charge 1/2 hour labour!!

Do all 'Rocs come with the lights as I hadn't noticed them before.

All the best

hi geoff and welcome

all sciroccos come with drls, this has been a constant source of debate here, not aided by inconsistencies in the delear network, some dealers say you can't, some can, some do it for free some charge, mine were disabled by a dealer in november when they did a spot of warranty work

Just as a bit of background, the reason for the lights is that there's an EU ruling coming in 2011 which will make them mandatory on new cars. I suspect all cars that will have a life cycle through that time are having them added now so it's not something they have to add in before either a model change or a facelift.

I tend to just flick it over one click to the right which turns them off.

There's a VAG-COM option which uses the sidelights as DRLs instead of the headlights so you can leave the switch in AUTO all the time- I've activated it on mine.

Next time I plug VAG-COM in I'll take a screenshot / write down the code.

That would be handy - cheers :)

Yeah I leave mine one click to the right during the day as I get fed up of the 'who's the numpty with his lights on' looks :grumpy:

I often forget about them until I open the car & hear the bong bong noise...

I can't decide if I'd want them completely off or just the side lights - I think possibly that the rear looks better with the lights off - but like the side light on the front :?

I'm not sure if the rears come on with the DRLs - I'll check later.

:fall:
Didn't realise they'd get away charging so much! Still, it's cheaper than buying a VAGCOM cable which set me back about 250. Though I guess I can turn them back on if I need to for free
I'll be happy to put the cable to good use and turn DRLs off and save people being ripped off to the tone of £48!

Just searched the forum and it's seems it's because I have xenons which means you get dedicated DRLs so, unlike cars with standard lights, the rear lights and number plate lights do not come on.
