Any RCD/RNS 510 Experts?

Hi everyone

So I am buying my Dads 2010 Roc in the coming months. The car is really well specd but does not have Bluetooth and this is something I want to install.
I have done some reading of the last few weeks and it seems to be a bit of a rabbit hole :eyepop: and I was just wondering if someone could check my understanding.

So I understand from some US sites there are a number of versions of the RCD 510, the type of which limits your ability of you Bluetooth music playback. You need the latest AF version to be able to skip tracks using the screen and steering controls. Again I think the latest L version of the 7P6035730 bluetooth kit is required to ensure this functionality. (I have a white mfd)

My questions are:
1. Are there a number of versions of the RCD510 in the UK? Is there an easy way to tell which is which as the AF at the end of the model number in the US seems to be missing over here? My unit does not show the model number when I hold the setup button down so I think its old.
2. If I buy the latest bluetooth kit now I hope to get bluetooth calls and music streaming, I might not however get track skipping etc. via the radio or steering wheel. Is this correct?

My plan as stated is likely to buy the latest 7P6035730L Bluetooth kit, I am fairly confident with the fitting procedure, however I might not have the latest bluetooth streaming functionality but at I should be able to answer calls etc.

I then plan to upgrade my rdc510 to a later version or an rns510 perhaps next year. Again I understand the rns 510 can have firmware updates to achieve streaming capability but I think this might complicate the Bluetooth install with the voice control feature but shouldn't be too bad.

Any reccomendations/links welcomed.

Cheers

I went down this route, and I suspect that our findings are similar!

I installed the bluetooth module (7PL like your post says), but I have an older RCD510 version.

Summary:
- Yes, there are a number of versions of the RCD510 in the UK, I think it depends on your car Build week.
- Phone book numbers don't appear correctly when you try to dial direct from RCD510 screen, so I have assigned 5 of my frequently called contacts to the speed dial Menu; makes live easy
- Phone call quality is perfect via bluetooth, absolutely no problems with whatever RCD510 version you use I dont think
- I have the older version RCD510 (pre revision A of my HW), so: Bluetooth streaming is a bit buggy .i.e. No track info on RCD screen, inability to pause (you can only mute), you can't skip tracks either or so anything with steering wheel controls/RCD screen. But it works fine as a basic music streamer
- The way I found out my RCD model number was to use VCDS... An easier way is to just pull it out (follow removal guides), and read it off the sticker on top of the unit.
- I intend to upgrade to an RNS510 too when I get a bit of spare cash! Anything from revision C and above should be OK I believe :).

Hope this helps

Thanks for the info, you have pretty much confirmed what I had thought and it sounds like you have done what I intend to do.

I was looking at the price of RCD510s of ebay and they are about half of that for a RNS510.
As I am not that fussed about the sat nav functionality do you know/know the location of any guidance on different RCD510 models and their features?

Cheers

I didn't look too much into RCD models, so I cant help you on that. you could just get a later revision of the model currently in your car at the moment and that might be ok.

You might have to keep searching forums on the different RCD versions - i know some have DAB capabilties, they must be the top of the range

The RCD 510 come from at least two different sources. Some are Delphi models and the more recent ones are Bosch. The part number is 3C8 035 195 and will have a suffix letter. The most recent DAB units have a H at the end - 3C8 035 195 H. Not bothered to fit Bluetooth as do not like to answer the phone while driving so cannot help in that respect.

Under the front seat or behind the climate control panel - whichever you think is neater/easier

sorry to dig up an old thread but i found it while searching for RCD510 part numbers.

I have been trying to get the song info to work on mine when using bluetooth streaming. I tried updating my bluetooth module from a 7P6 J to a 7P6 M and that made no difference.

Now looking at the version of my head unit. I have a 3c8 035 195 A made by Blaupunkt. Seen a 3c8 035 195 H made by bosch and wondered if that might give me the song info an ability to skip and pause the track from the head unit / steering wheel.

Thanks in advance.
