I haven't got any pictures, but i'll try and describe it the best i can:
  • Open the boot lid, along the back edge of the headlining you will see a plastic strip. This is held on with 5 metal clips. You can get your fingers under it from the headlining side and pop it off.
  • Next we need to remove the black panels that line the side of the boot. There are 3 screws on each side. one by the rear seat, one i a recessed hole, and one underneath the luggage hook (to remove the luggage hook pull it up and out and it will unclip)
  • Final piece of trim removal are the C-Pillar covers, they are held on with a metal spring clip under the airbag logo, and two plastic trim clips by the boot opening. to remove gently slide a small flat bladed screwdriver under the centre of a long edge on the airbag logo and slide it gently side to side to unclip it. Once removed you will be able to see the metal spring clip (you may need a torch to see it) use the screwdriver again to press the latch on the spring clip, then pull the trim panel away from the bodywork (it will pop off the plastic trim clips quite easily)
  • Now you can gently lower the headlining (lower it as little as possible or it may crease at the B-Pillar and the creases are awkward to get rid of) and you will be able to see the base of the aerial. The nut is either 22mm or 24mm (I haven't done this for a while) so use an appropriately sized spanner (a socket is a little too big to get in without risking creasing the headlining)
  • And as Haynes has told us many many times, re-installation is the reverse of removal
A couple of things to watch:
  • The 5 metal clips can sometimes become detached and are a pain to get out of the car body. pull the trim straight down to avoid this.
  • The plastic trim clips sometimes separate so the black portion stays attached to trim piece and the white part stays in the bodywork. I have found it easier to remove the white part from the bodywork and reattach it to the black piece before trying to put the trim back on the car
  • Check that all the trim pieces sit behind the boot seal once refitted. You can use a blunt tool to slide round behind the seal to pull it to the top.

Thanks for this guide, certainly helped with the pillar plastics removel steps. I snapped the top of the original dummy shark fin off when the garage door decided to stop halfway up whilst backing out - luckily the force did not damage the roof metal; the plastic snapped before it could distort the metal!
Anyway, got a replacement from the dealer (part number 1K0 035 507 L) and managed to easily replace using this guide. This is not the one with any cables etc - this is the dummy one as fitted to models without the factory satnav/DAB.

To note that the nut is 22mm and has a tab that slots onto the thread. You have to be careful of the roof lining; even when the side pillar plastics are out, it does not move down too much - just don't force it as I can see it would crease very easily. Another note is to ensure you align the shark fin on the body before tightening up the nut - it has 4 "prongs" that bite into the underside of the roof metal, so it's difficult to move once tightened - I used a 2lb hammer head (no handle) to hold the shark fin in place whilst relocating the nut on the underside of the roof - I slotted the hammer head over the "fin" section (also used a cloth to protect the fin before placing the hammer head on the plastic part) - worked really well.

Thanks again, and here's a pic of the underside of the shark fin unit and nut, just so others have a reference for removing it.
