Hi, I would like to take out GAP insurance when my new car turns up, but the price VW quoted is quite high and currently won't budge much (they offered it for £390, and reduced it to their absolute best price of £300 )
so does anybody know a reputable GAP insurance provider that won't add on loads of commission to the price!
shop around on the internet as their are other ways of getting this cover, sometimes also know as Return to Invoice, i got it thrown in with the car as the dealer free of charge as it was easier to lose in their system
£213 for 3 years Return to Invoice on a £25000 with a £15000 claim limit (assuming the insurance company will pay at least £10000 for market value of the car during first 3 years).
Use that as a negiotating tool. Often the dealer is using the same underwriter anyway...

I have taken this option. Dealer wanted £460 for a lot less cover than this. No brainer !!
Best I found (and hope to use when I pick the car up in LESS THAN A WEEK!) is http://www.ala.co.uk/back-to-invoice.html for four years cover and upto £15,000 it quotes £229 (oddly enough selecting £15,000 is cheaper than £12,500) - also if you use Quidco you can get 10% cashback.

Thanks in advance.
I only decided I wanted GAP after ordering so did not manage to get it for free. However, I printed out the best on-line quotes and after presenting these to the dealer they offered GAP for £200 which was not quite the cheapest but I felt more comfortable buy through the dealer than an unknown on-line company.
Cheers for the help people, seems to the best approcah will be to go in armed with internet quotes and watch the dealer squirm. (Basically the same way I bought the car in the first place!!)
You can get 36 months RTI (the one to have) with £15k claim limit on a vehicle priced between £7.5k and £35k for £147.00 all day long. I would not pay a penny more, but if you can get it FOC then all well and good/ Personally while at the dealers their starting price of £450 came down to £200 if I signed on the spot and I still turned them down as I knoew I could get it cheaper elsewhere. Don't give them the business as it just makes it worse for everyone else they prey on with their overpriced finance products, bunch of charlatans the lot of em.
Quick question folks, by the sounds of it the "deal" i got on my GAP insurance was crap. Do you think I can amend/get the dealer to make a bet offer on the insurance even though I have already paid a deposit and signed on the dotted line - which included the quote for the GAP insurance? I should be picking my new car up in the next week or two? Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers

I would say as the insurace policy is not yet valid and in force you can cancel and gain a refund as the insurer has not yet been exposed to any risk. They are not going to like it and I would be ready to defend the corner, maybe consider accepting a foc service in lieu of payment as a compromise.
Cheers for that amigo, been on't t'internet and armed myself with many quotes at half of the price of the dealers. Going in tomorrow to pick up the courtesy roc and will have the discussion then. I appreciate your speedy reply le-savage and I'll let you know how I get on.

I negotiated the GAP plus a few others after I had put down the deposit. The world has changed since then (Sep 08) but I simply printed off the best deal I could find online at the time and when I went back to sort out insurance and reg plates etc. I errrmmm - confronted them - and they threw a few freebies in and upped my trade-in to make sure I wasn't an unhappy new customer.

My Roc was fast - but now its FASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Evening boys, back from the dealers, they'll match the internet policy, a drop of around 220 quid! So cheers for the advice! Got my courtesy Roc too, here until I get delivery of my lovely new motor - should be next week! Fingers crossed! Anyway, going out for a meal tonight and I've volunteered to be designated driver - I wonder why! Get to have a play and scare the other half. Cheers again folks!
